The Indian Sanskrit name for this raga is Kalyan and the Persian is Yuman. In the Ragmala, Kalian is the son of Dipak while today it is the head of the Kalian thata. It is performed during the first part of the night and is considered a blessing bringing all good into one's life. Guru Ram Das and Guru Arjan composed 23 hymns to this raga. The texts exalt the far-reaching and all-pervading power of the Lord. In the Holy Book the only raga variant given is Bhopali (Bhupali).

ਇਹ ਉਗ੍ਰਦੰਤੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਲਗੀਧਰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੁਖਵਾਕ ਰਚਨਾ ਹੈ
ਉਗ੍ਰਦੰਤੀ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਭਯਾਨਕ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਦੰਦਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਤਲਵਾਰ

ਏਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ "ਕੁਦਰਤ" ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਵ੍ਯਾਪਕ ਤੇ ਸਾਕਾਰ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੈ, ਓਹ ਕਿਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਆਲੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਉਤਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਦੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਬੜੇ ਹੀ ਬੇਮਿਸਾਲ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ, ਬੀਰ ਰਸੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਚ ਬੳਤ ਹੀ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ

ਕਿ ਹੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਤੁਹੀਂ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਅਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਦਾ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਚਲਾ ਰੇਹਾ ਹੈਂ
ਤਹੀਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰਾਂ ਚ ਵਰਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ
ਤੁਹੀਂ ਜੰਗ ਚ ਭਰੰਕਰ ਤਲਵਾਲ ਰੂਪ ਹੋਯਾ ਹੈਂ
ਰਾਮ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਾਵਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੰਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਤ ਹਰਣਾਖਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ
ਤੇ ਕਲਜੁਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੇ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦੋਖੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ

ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਜਪਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਪਾ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਹੈ

ਇਸ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਤਮ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਪਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਗਤੀਆਂ ਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ

ਇਹ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਦੇ ਛੰਦ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਨੇ
ਇਹਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਨ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਚ ਪਰਤੀਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਜੀਵ ਅਟੱਲ ਤੇ ਅਮਰ ਪਦ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਭਰਮ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਦੁਖ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਚ ਅਭੇਦਤਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ
