This set was recorded during the launch of Oddity Radio, which happened in Paris on the 2nd April 2022. A new project initiated by yours truly which is not a radio in the true sense of the word, more a collective hub which gathers a selection of our favorite record labels, showcasing playlists from each of their back catalogues and occasional exclusive mixes. These independent labels are some of the finest of their kind, filled with artists and attitudes that we believe exemplify a creative spirit for the future. Carving a niche in anything from the esoteric to the leftfield, global dance or laidback ambience alike. We strive to open a path into their psyches through sounds, words and visions. Bringing these like-minded folk together for the first time, allowing their tunes to breath harmoniously side by side in a continuous mix of complimentary aural delights.

De Kat Memwa as a mix series was created with the intention of promoting a diverse range of genres and bringing together selectors who are not entertaining but inspire and surprise the curious listener. Issue 49, which features the recordings of Sallad Egg, is a perfect example of this ethos. In my sonic paradigm, Sallad Egg is a true DJ's DJ, whose tracks transport me to a different musical universe I have never been to before. Additionally, in my opinion, Sally's background as a trained artist working with different materials allows her to create truly unique musical soundscapes.

It's worth noting that I typically become acquainted with the selectors who contribute to the series through the Internet and sometimes meet them in person later on. However, my experience with Sally was completely the opposite! I had the pleasure of meeting her in person in February 2020, thanks to our mutual friend and the talented Welsh musician and young father, Daf aka @zetazetamusic! 
Looking forward to hanging out together again!

The Udacha label might have been away for a while but is now back with a vengeance. First up for this return is a new long player by the mighty fine Kurvenschreiber quarter, which is made up of Sergey Komarov, Vlad Dobrovolski, Ilya Sadovski and Alexey Grachev. These sound artists have been excelling in their field for some 10 years now and use synths as well as found sound objects to create their work. Magnetic tape loops, various instruments, pre-recorded loops, shortwave radios, transformers and much more give rise to this unique record which mixes up Boolean jazz, kurventronika and post-rock.

PREMIERE: Kurvenschreiber — Schleifenkopf (Udacha, 2023)

Hanagasumi Records presents the fifth release, this time you will hear multi-genre electronic music in compilation format from wonderful artists who have their own unique and inimitable musical vision. Many of the artists previously released on labels such as Udacha, Rough House Rosie, Kimochi, Runout, Resonance, Faktura. On the cover you see the numbered minerals of one large gem, the mineral number is also the track number. Minerals come together to create something beautiful, just like the tracks on this album. 

The compilation opens with the instrumental track "Kamerton" by Shine Grooves (@shine-grooves), which combines classical piano playing with atmospheric synth sounds. The second track "Gods Gave" by Seal Bient & Jon'Smu (@seal-bient & @jonsmu) is filled with mystery and melodic sequences that gently fall on electro rhythms. Continuing the journey, we come to the third track - "Caleidoscope" from the legendary band Bipolardepth (@bipolardepth), very fragile and thin sound matter, reminiscent of crystals, is connected with an ambient mood. The fourth track "The Sun Changed To Rain" is the work of two musicians - Michel (@michel) and Shine Grooves (@shine-grooves), the composition is filled with house percussions and magical synth parts, but has a relaxing effect. The last track on side A is "Smelles" by Psor (@userekb), you will hear house rhythms, lots of delay and vocals - first class dub! The second side is opened by the melodic IDM track "Muy Fragil" by Jon'Smu (@jonsmu), atmospheric melodies are combined with broken rhythms and futuristic percussion. The second track "Fabrika" from the live improvisational band Ryabina (@rowanberryspace) is filled with crystal clear sounds, electro rhythm and cosmic chimes. The third track "Kwas" by Ronin (@rnn343) combines a very slow and deep house groove that runs very smoothly through synth sequences. The fourth track "Lionwave" from the mysterious musician Phoboz (@phoboz), is an incredibly beautiful dub techno that slowly leads to hypnosis. The album closes with the ambient track "Runout 08.03" by X343 (@x343) - a loop-shaped synth sequence that can run endlessly in your head.
