This is what real Indian Fusion music is all about!! Way to go guys!! THIS (Karthick Iyer's) band handles the tunes / raga and leverage the Indian classical instruments to give the western music beats (thalam).  MOST other Indian fusion music compositions out there - that just play indian classical music using western musical instruments (predominantly use drums & guitar/piano) and call it fusion .. which just don't add up.  Karthick bring more music like this track - this is really "boundless"!!

Yes this is authentic Carnatic Fusion. Other bands are just playing some tamil songs with drums and guitar. They lack the carnatic touch. Karthick's songs are so unique that people with pure carnatic background immediately recognize the original song and yet dont feel overwhelmed with the western rendition. I am not trained in Carnatic music but grew up listening to it. Also grew up listening to western. I absoluely enjoy this kind of fusion. My only complaint is that I cant get a high res version, at least CD format if not higher.

I forgot to mention one  remark about this recording. Please note that I am not criticizing the song, only the recording, that too the initial minute or so. If you listen carefully, there is some hiss at the beginning of the song during the mridhangam solo piece. Unfortunately this is the version in the album and not the live version. The liver performance is more or less the same but because of the hiss in the album version, I just dont like to listen to the album version. This is a great song BTW and I like "octave violin" sound.  Karthick: could you please confirm if that hiss is in fact in the recording. I dont think it is due to my PC or audio system as I have heard this at work and there also I hear the hiss.

This bit is my favorite. Suddenly the ambiance turns dark!

As soon as we played this song in the jam room, we knew we had landed on something extremely powerful, and very different from our usual sound at that. IndoSoul is a journey of discover for us and it was amazing to see how the raga Shanmugapriya transformed magically with powerful guitar riff. Along with the tribal drums and bass grooves, the song gets a distinctive metal feeling!
