Long term friend of the label Benny V links up with DJ Uniques, Supersuit and Aboudy for the ‘Kung Fu’ EP. Now that’s not to say Benny has taken up practicing roundhouse kicks and creating fire from his hands, that would just be silly, especially as the heat would have melted the mixing desk by now! What we do have here though is a bundle of upfront jump up with a splash of 90’s flavour, well in for Nicky Blackmarket’s Kartoons label.

Title track ‘Kung Fu’ features vocals from Aboudy which slot in perfectly with Benny V and DJ Uniques fun loving basslines and snappy breakbeats. It’s one of those tracks that will keep you entertained on and off the dance floor and the sneaky FX used will no doubt keep arcade addicts happy. DJ Profile adds a special remix for the EP, lacing his own style and pattern all over it with a totally different lead melody whilst retaining feels of the original.

What makes a ‘Tru Londoner’ in 2022? Well who better to ask than Benny V? This man lives and breathes the capital of the UK and at times, he’s even been known to wear one of those ‘I heart LND’ fitted t-shirts. Singalong low end eases the gap between rolling breaks, it’s even got a special switch to another octave - early 2000’s business!

Wrapping up cod and chips in old newspapers has never been more suitable when mentioning ‘Fake News’ so of course we end the EP with this one. More Benny V and DJ Uniques trademark bass riffs and some vocal stabs from Aboudy make this a great “and finally” moment.

Next up to dine at the CIA top table is none other than The Infuriator himself, the infamous T>I. Making serious waves over the last few years to say the least, T>I has become a name synonymous with stripped back and minimal trickery and his ‘Locksmith EP’ brings that trademark Norwich Colmans ping as standard, getting you more than ready to lob your Fray Bentos Chicken & Mushroom across the front room. 

We probably all know that anger that comes when you have to call out ‘The Locksmith’. My guy’s going to sting you for a chunk of cash to drill out your front door. This could be the soundtrack to either the drilling or the murder style the track suggests. 

Sounding possibly repentant for lobbing that pie, but probably not, as they definitely deserved it, ‘Bongolian Belt Roller’ rolls and chugs it’s way alongside its classic soul sample. 

And pies are flying all over the shop with ‘Let It Go’, it’s classic breaks teamed with new school drums and whopping bass stabs. And it sure would be a totally ‘Valid Statement’ to say this EP’s gonna pop off; V style samples and knocking bass taking you to some sweaty underground Bristol rave in 2045. 

T>I brings a true four-course meal to CIA with his Locksmith EP – it’s chewy, not chalky.

From 'V Classic' to 'Planet V' and beyond, the V Recordings camp have been scene leaders in creating era-defining, zeitgeist-capturing compilations. And, following on from the retrospective 'Foundation' project, it's now time for another chapter in the story - 'Future'

Bryan Gee, widely known as one of the most influential selectors and A&R men in the business, has taken his time to compile and curate something that's more than just another album. This is Bryan's personal vision of what's to come, not only for the V brand, but for Drum & Bass music as a whole.
Never swayed by fashions, fads and sub-genre divisions, Bryan and Jumpin Jack Frost's family of labels have been a benchmark for quality from time immemorial. So, when they call this album 'Future', that comes with authority.

For V Recordings, the future is as much about building on what's come before as it is about brand new innovations. So, we see contemporary masters like Benny L, Voltage and L-Side pay homage to the classics with remixes of Roni Size, Ray Keith, Krust and Dillinja. Artificial Intelligence go back in on their anthem 'Uprising' to give it a cutting-edge reconfiguration, and Dr Meaker's 'Fighter' gets the S.P.Y treatment.

Then there are the 2020 visions of artists from across the spectrum of Drum & Bass music. The likes of Alibi, Paul T & Edward Oberon, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, DJ Marky & Dirtbag, Bladerunner, Zero T, Command Strange, Carlito & Addiction, Jonny L & Need for Mirrors deliver darkness and light, savagery and euphoria, musicality and hype in equal measure. And that's just scratching the surface.

The future that this album sets out before us is one where pigeon-holes and categories are unimportant. Certified legends rub shoulders with breakthrough artists. Heavyweight dancefloor bangers co-exist with soulfully melodic flavours. This music is unified, not by style or by marketability, but purely by the vibe. If that's what a V Recordings future looks like, we can relax. The scene is in safe hands.
