Dense & Pika U, My EP

Arriving on Patrick Topping’s Trick for the first time, the pair bring their big, booming techno to the label with two chunky tracks. Title track ‘U, My’ sees airy vocal chops floating over big kicks, knocking percussion and a hypnotic, looping low-end, combining to form a heavy club cut, while ‘Sun Sesh’ sees the duo reach for a combination of shuffling drums, tweaked-out FX, and rolling chords for a dynamic, chugging track.

One of the most exciting names in modern dance music, Eli Brown’s productions have graced Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave, Chris Lake’s Black Book Records, and now Patrick Topping’s Trick. Continuing this streak of dancefloor weapons with ‘Rudeboi EP’, the Bristolian DJ/producer combines his wide-ranging influences into three hard-hitting rave cuts.

‘Super excited to release my latest EP on Trick, a label that I feel is really pushing things forward sound wise. This EP tries to showcase my love of all things 90's, drawing influences from Jungle music, Detroit techno and the early rave scene. Hope you enjoy.’ - Eli Brown 

The title track sets the tone for the EP with rumbling bass drums and fast paced stabs offset by a classic jungle vocal. Continuing with the same energy, ‘Welcome To My House’ brings heavy four to the floor drops and squelchy, catchy acid lines. The final track ‘Don’t Think Much’ features an iconic monologue from Talk Show over a deep, hypnotic groove, closing out yet another anthemic EP.

Previously collaborating on 2020’s ‘Ultimate Distortion’, We Are The Brave label-boss Alan Fitzpatrick and Drumcode, Hot Creations, and Dirtybird star Rebūke join forces once again, this time for Patrick Topping’s Trick imprint. Recruiting Big Miz (Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Shall Not Fade) on remix duties, the result is a pair of no-holds-barred floor fillers destined for dancefloor mania. 

The original mix of ‘Nice & Cool Trigga’ sees pounding kicks and breakbeats wrestle with euphoric rave pads, forming an anthemic and heaving track. Big Miz’s remix sees the Glaswegian DJ/producer inject his signature club-friendly energy, twisting elements of the original into a rowdy, hands-in-the-air affair.

Returning to Trick following their ‘U, My EP’ in 2022, Dense & Pika bring their big, booming techno back to the imprint with two more heavy hitters. Title track ‘Brunt’ combines thunderous kicks and hoover-esque synths with twisted vocals for a warehouse-filling affair, while ‘Bag of Beez’ sees the duo draw for crunchy, shuffling percussion and pumping low-end for a heavy yet tweaked-out B side.

Dense & Pika are a British electronic duo compromising Hypercolour label co-founder Alex Jones and Chris Spero, aka Glimpse. Heading up the Kneaded Pains imprint, which has played host to Eats Everything, James Welsh, and Will Clarke alongside their own productions, the duo have been at the forefront of hard-hitting house & techno since the project’s inception in 2011.
