Domu (aka Dominic Stanton) is/was a hero of the jazzy broken beat field, where he released albums and a plethora of singles for a variety of labels including Apparel Music, Compost and Papa Records. Back in 2009 he released ESP DJ Classics Vol 2: Domu's Disco Jazz, a collection of edits that was only available in Japan. Now the good folks at KAT have acquired two key tracks from the album for our listening pleasure. The Emotions' Love Vibes, is a gloriously celebratory disco-funk excursion, whilst Claudia Barry's Give It Up is tougher funk jam with echoes of Cheryl Lynn.

Domu 'Love Vibe' / 'Give It Up' KAT029 Sampler

'Make It Funky' is an edit / rework of Rim and Kasa ‘Love Me For Real’ taken from the sought after 1982 12” ‘Too Tough’ on Sum Sum Records. Alkalino has toughened it up in the percussion section to enhance the serious pig skin workout that drives this Afro Boogie bomb… And the vocals will have the dance floor shouting out in unison...

'Drums of Kenya' is a heavy disco inspired African cut destined for heavy dancefloor action which as the title says, ‘Drums of Kenya’, 7+ minutes of percussion heaven that will work the dancers hard. The version cuts the chaff from the original cut, ‘Shining Star’ by The Stranger which was released on Unidisc out of Canada in 1979 and go straight for the jugular with the incredible conga workout.

'Lion of Zimbabwe' is a gentle touch up of Butsu Mutandarika by Thomas Mapfumo & The Blacks Unlimited featuring Jonah Sithole with added percussion to underpin the whole track and looping up the solid African groove, this will work wonders on the right floors...

Pedantic record collector and DJ, Stephen King (AKA Virgo Type), has finally started releasing some of the tracks and edits that he's been working on over the past few years with his vinyl debut on KAT Records. There's an eclectic range of source material on this EP including early disco rap on 'Dancing Heart', chopped up, dusty lounge bar grooves on 'Jazz Cigarette' and even some 90s new-jack-swing gets the loop and filter treatment on 'Outta My Head'. Packing an MPC, drum machine and an extensive record collection, Virgo Type's tracks are a love letter to the people and places that have provided the inspiration for his music.

DJ Raw Sugar started deejaying in the mid 90's spinning techno records at the legendary Tresor club. Soon he discovered his love for house music and was part of the emerging vibrant Berlin club scene. In 1997 he won the KISS FM Berlin Next Generation Deejay award as one of the most exciting newcomer deejays at the time. As a producer and remixer he has worked with a number of outstanding artists such as Amp Fiddler, Fae Simon, Milly James and Inkswel. He's released edits, remixes and original productions on labels such as ISM, Gazeebo, Midnight Riot, Voyeurhythm, BBE, Editorial and his own imprint Love Sexy Records. His compositions have a uniquely raw yet polished and distinctive quality. As a regular presenter on community radio stations around the globe he shares his passion for beats, love and happiness.

Andi and David first met in a forest beside a psychedelic castle in the wild west of Scotland and soon bonded over a love of wrong speeders, Balearic gems hidden in plain sight and the odder side of the dancefloor before DJing together just moments after Andi was unraveled from a burning tarpaulin. A firm friendship and fun partnership was born.

Hailing from Mancunia but for sometime an export to the USA, Andi, for many years was one of the great things about New York City. A charming, low-key individual, a great, great DJ and a graceful presence in the land of the overhyped and ego driven.

Andi held down the musical supervision of Rock Star games and was responsible for a lot of great music getting out to the gaming masses. He was a vital member of Body and Soul for the best part of 15 years, delivering infamous warm up sets for Danny Krivit, Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell and François K, pedigree vibes...

David, a music lover since birth, a record collector for more than quarter of a century and a reputation for being the first on the floor at any party. DB’s transition from dancer to DJ didn’t take too long and his selections of rare disco, oddball gems and pan global pandemonium have seen him play back rooms, basements, festivals and freakouts throughout the land, whether running his own parties in Glasgow or playing further afield alongside the likes of Young Marco, Jayda G and Moodymann.
