Feral Hymns is a collection of powerful and cavernous compositions, produced by Hilary and mixed and mastered by frequent collaborator Lasse Marhaug. The EP uses rich string orchestration, electronics, textured field recordings and ethereal vocal instrumentation to create a beautiful lulling and compelling series of dimensional drones.

Speaking about the new record, Woods said: "A collection of hymns set at dusk. Speckled memory, dust, earth, grit, ritual and chant – purged in the shadows. Unspoken bonds, primal pain, cyclical patterns, unsent love letters. Homemade recordings, made at home."

Every time I return to this little 1U wonder from 1986 it does something that leaves me somewhat dumbfounded.. for years I overlooked the DEP-5 until a friend highly recommended it. This now 36 year old little beauty can produce some really lovely atmospheres, textures and moods thanks to its modulated effects and sweet reverb.... and the one thing that really adds to this is the multitude of knobs on the front panel allowing you to dial, tweek and explore to your heart's content - heck I wish more kit in the studio was as interactive as this - it is SO much more rewarding than fighting with endless menus and cursor buttons.

Here is some Infinite and Random Modulated Reverb in action at both normal and half playback speed...  I forget what the source instrument was - it was either the mighty Rhodes Chroma in the studio or the humble Alesis Micron in the workshop and I think that nicely demonstrates the sheer power of effects like these...

1986 Roland DEP-5 Reverb: Randomized Atmos Machine...

Today, Toronto-based experimental pop artist Kat Duma shares a hypnotic new single “Real Life” from her debut full-length album Real Life, out April 21, 2023.

Real Life seems to wander effortlessly in and out like a fog falling, and lifting. In this sense the title is more of a question: what is real life? What’s outside of it? One could say these are love songs to life itself. Lost in rapturous longing while more menacing forces loom…like the world burning in the distance behind a crystal clear lake, like being in love, like real life.
