This is an interview with Sarah Swann for Alfred Radio in Shaftesbury. 

Sarah Swann is a tattoo artist in Motcombe. After many years working as a portrait artist she decided to swap canvass for skin. We chatted about how painful tattoos are, the benefits of working in the countryside and how she's coped through lock down.

We're often told if we spend money with local independent businesses, the cash we hand over at the till is more likely to support other Shaftesbury area enterprises but is that true?

For Alfred Radio I spoke to three local independent businesses in Shaftesbury about how they embrace local produce, and how it benefits the local economy.

Bushbells is a small social enterprise based in Watamu, Kenya which sells beautiful Kikoy and cotton clothing, made by four highly skilled tailors (pictured). The profits are fed back into the local community creating jobs, building schools, providing medical care, environmental schemes, paying school fees... the list goes on. 

In this interview I speak to Jax Comyn (co-founder)about Bushbells, the importance of thinking about where our clothes come from and the people who make them.
