Miniaturised Concertos | Maché album

Kirk Yat (Church Gate), was commissioned as part of artist Irene Rogan's Being and Dwelling project, and explores the resonances of the church piano at St Michael and All Angels, Hawkshead, Cumbria.

It includes recordings I made around the church, outside and inside, capturing life in Hawkshead and some of the particular sonic soundscape on a given day. You hear the church gates (yats) at the start and end of the piece and the voices of people in town, across a couple of late summer days.

Horizontal Transfer (the last in the series) combines music and an interview with astrophysicist Professor Niranjan Thatte from Oxford University and a playlist of influences from Joel Bell and Kate Halsall, with live performance mixed from Kate Halsall's Boom residency (Bell Halsall duo + Myr) with Oxford Contemporary Music. We used BBC Radio Oxford archive recordings, of Oxfordshire people’s memories of old journeys and landscapes around their homes that have evolved into other things. KH
