Cervus elaphus hispanicus refers to the red deer of Portugal and Spain. It's slightly smaller than those across the Pyrenees.
The rutting season (referred to as 'brama' in Portugal) starts mid-August and goes until the end of September. 
The recording was in an area in interior Alentejo where wild boars and white-tailed deer live in big numbers and all can be heard throughout this segment.

While the summer nights in the taiga is the realm of the White’s Thrush, the dawn is owned by other songbirds. In the intense and diverse choir of bird voices in the early morning hour one might identify Red-flanked Bluetail, Garden, Blyth’s Reed, Willow, Arctic and Greenish warbler, Oriental Cuckoo, Black Woodpecker, Willow and Coal Tit, and Olive-backed Pipit.

Katherine Prokofieva is an experienced ballet and contemporary accompanist, who has worked with teachers and dancers from The Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, The Moscow State Opera and Ballet Theatre for Young Audience named after Natalia Sats, The Vaganova Ballet Academy, The St.Petersburg State Boris Eifman Dance Academy, Dolgushin classic ballet school, The Gansu Provance Grand Theatre China, The Music House Amman Jordan. As well as playing for classical ballet, Katherine also plays and improvises for contemporary dance classes and composes original music and arrangements for ballet and contemporary dancers.
