This is another recording from our Thursday night Jo-Jos night in Stroud from 1996. we had asked Rick and Pete to come and play a hip hop set for us, just for a bit of a change. The local Hip Hop kids could not contain their delight and we had various request for a mic from the word go. We managed to flow them off for most of the night. but eventually one of them ran home to get a mic, so the last 20 mins has some local MCing on it. They  where good lads, so we put up with it as to not offend them too much.

While digging through his archives for his debut solo album project on Apollo Records, Andy Cato rediscovered this DJ mix on an old c60 cassette. Recorded live from a free party on the South Downs "sometime in the early 1990s", the set is a spotters treasure trove of classic house cuts and captures the musical spirit of pre-Criminal Justice Act Britain. First introduced to the free party scene by his cousin, Digs (of British sound system legends, DIY), Cato spent much of this period circumnavigating the UK in an old Hillman Imp, travelling between the North's illegal party hotspots through to Castlemorton and beyond.

On April 29th Andy will released 'Times and Places'. Over the last 15 years he has been writing this album on the road on tour with GA. From Airport Lounges / Hotel Rooms / Planes / Trains and an array of tour buses. The last two years saw Andy edit all these ideas into one beautiful album. Released through the legendary Apollo Records and R&S Records, on digital and limited edition hardback CD book. There will also be a cheeky vinyl announcement on the way but more of that to come. This is Groove Armada history.

Andy Cato - South Downs Free Party (Early90s)

This is the 2nd Mixtape that was made available in early '93 which was part of a set of tapes that were recorded live at the Deepeace/DiY NYE party at the end of '92. The party was in Marshfeild on the outskirts of Bath & If you were one of the thousands there I'm sure you will agree it was one of the most memorable NYE parties I've ever experienced!
This mix is me delving more into the progressive side of house that was about in the free party scene & the slightly harder edged U.S. house, although always coming back to that deeper jazz tinged groove that i loved. 
Re-mastered from original recordings with no gap for a full 90mins of unbroken music for your listening pleasure ...enjoy Mr M x

Tupelo Honey, Live

Saturday afternoon at Plumpton free party, everyone was a little worse for wear after a very good friday night. So DK played an epic 4 hour set of very mellow teckno and lovely vocal house. Just what the doctor ordered!!! We used to have all 4 hours on tape, but over the years they have got lost, now only the last 45 mins remains. Damn shame as it was awesome.
