I like to do little mixes in my bedroom quite often, usually just for myself, but I thought I'd share this one :) With some picks old and new, from Russia to Detroit, this fun little mix should pump some energy into your Friday afternoon!

A little jungle mix I put together one afternoon:) no particular theme, just vibes

Jungle mix 5th July

I put together this trippy and dark-textured bedroom mix, featuring a bunch of jungle, illbient, dub, acid house, and other bits and pieces, playing around the 90-100bpm mark earlier this month, and thought y'all might enjoy it. Pop some good headphones on, munch down a couple tabs, and take a stroll through the cobblestone streets and old tunnels until this lifts you off and into my dimension<3

I've put together this 30min mix of blends of tracks old and new to me. A mixture of textures and spaces, this set's bringing a bass heavy energy with fresh rhythms and enveloping soundscapes. 

It's a quick taster of the Katelate energy, giving you a sense of the unexpected to expect when you hear me live:)

I'm still working on the vocal cut and have to redo (and properly practice) the piano part live, but here's an instrumental version of a weird, lumpy, nostalgic track that's got its chin up to a stormy future.

Beginnings (instrumental version)

For your listening pleasure, one very chopped up classic funk track with some two-step slickness and chonky basslines. Unlike the last track I posted, this one isn't just blindly hoping for a better future against the weight of reality- it's living the joyful turn of spring without the illusions of hope.

Begin Living Again

Phew, what a mess lmao. I was a bit over-ambitious with this one for the amount of practice I was able to get in, and some of the ideas could definitely have been woven together better, but it landed alright! The sober light of day is harsh and unforgiving though lmao. I had a big fight with the cdjs in the middle because I forgot that the needle lock stops you loading a track to the cdj - including via instant doubles, so I messed with the sync buttons trying to get instant doubles to activate baha. Threw a couple of my originals in here, it's always interesting to hear how differently it comes through the system in a club. The first one sounds like shit, I'll have to totally remaster it, maybe change up the arrangement a bit too. Plastic Walk actually slapped pretty hard, though the engineer at bongo probably hates me for putting those saturated signals through the subs :| hope yall enjoy it, I think it still manages to do some of the stylistic combinations I was trying to do, and proves the concept a bit if you'd like to play around with it. Principle 8 set - 14 March 2024

Been listening to a lot of electro for some sets coming up, and preparing more stuff in that hot fast, spacey vibe. This was a lot of fun to make, ended up being a bit of a tool- might redo it into a couple of different versions, it was super hard to mix down so I might do a hard version and a chill version- we'll see:) hope u like it!

The Nugmoocher

Soooo entertainingly enough, I was working on trying to make more upbeat, funk-inspired music when I came out with this. I guess I had some stuff on my mind. I've been working with my voice in my songs more, and have some lyrical things that I'm still refining, though this ended up being one of the first I've posted with the vocals in sheerly incidentally. This feels like such a downer to open with- I hope this doesn't set too dark a precedent, as I usually prefer not to wallow in negative feelings like this. It just had to come out at that moment, and the track has been a cool way to explore those feelings we have to live with as little living creatures in our frail meat-bodies. I'm working on an album I'm going to self-release later in the year, but I don't think this one will make it onto that, so hit me up if you want a copy any time soon. The album won't be as song-based, it'll mostly be tracks with the dancefloor in mind, but there will be some trippy lil moments for personal listening. Hope you enjoy them half as much as I am, it's exciting to be getting to grips with making some of the music I've been working on for a long time. I'm excited to get on with the next section and see where we end up and what we'll hear<3

Nameless Hopeless Brief

Just finished this one up today, weird headspace but I like what came out of it. I know it feels like it should go real fast but feel it out first, that's a different energy. Yeah the mix is real trash, I think it'll take a bit of work and my speaker setup isn't good enough to really try to fix these problems (and is probably responsible for a few).

Oh damn, I'm absolutely in love with this track. Willow and Sampha are the only ones I've heard doing it like this and it is just a perfect tempo and rhythm of soul for a jungle flip. Some recipes age well:) Had loads of fun getting into playing with the recording, and then got myself absolutely lost in it after a while. Wish I had the proper acapella stem so i could mix the vocals higher, but it is what it is. Hope u like my version of the track<3 im gonna do a few more versions with different timings, especially around the big drop in the middle.

WILLOW - Symptom of Life (Katelate mix)

Funny lil concept, this one. I like it, but I'm not sure if I'm settled on this version, or this destiny for the idea. It's just a bit contrived, almost cliche, but maybe it's on the line enough to be interesting. That's one of the things I love about 90s breakbeat hardcore, jungle, and beat music- especially on the more experimental end. Amon Tobin is a name I'll be repeating for a long time, and I think his incredible uses of samples on Supermodified and Permutation informs a bit of the more cinematic tone I took writing the 'strings and woodwind' synth parts in this, and the whole approach to the sound palettes, drums, and structure of the track. 

In the end ig if it took me somewhere making it, maybe it can take someone else somewhere too:)
