In German literary tradition, there’s a type of novel called the bildungsroman. A typical bildungsroman follows a hero’s trajectory from birth to adulthood, charting their scrapes with reality and confrontations with chaos, until they finally emerge – a little scratched and bruised, but holding a hard-won nugget of enlightenment. Sanoi’s new self-titled album is a bildungsroman in deep house form, tracing the artist’s growth and fall from innocence, his confrontation with reality and eventual reconciliation with the vastness of the universe. 
 
This isn’t Sanoi’s first venture on Beat & Path. In 2019, the Berliner released a low, chugging EP through this label, a glowing debut entitled ‘Drive’. Then late last year, he followed up with a Jodorowsky-channelling festival anthem, ‘Walk’ (in collaboration with Jake Rattler). But where these releases were playa weapons, Sanoi’s newest enterprise is an autobiographical concept album, taking us into a more vulnerable part of the artist’s mind. And unlike many concept albums, this one is consistently danceable.

Right from the start, there’s a fine balance of soul searching and bottom-end sway. ‘When I Was A Little Boy’ (track one) opens with the sounds of children playing, while organic percussion quietly swings its way into the frame and leads us into a subtle, nostalgic deep house number. The low frequencies are growling but restrained, while the high end is celestial, bringing Sanoi’s fellow Berlin-resident Powel to mind. In psychedelic states, life-scenes will sometimes project themselves onto a backdrop of patterned visual motifs. In a similar way, Sanoi projects childhood scenes onto the constant four-four of the beat here, and the result is hallucinogenic and personal.

Ripperton's 'Niwa' album has without doubt been one of the highlight releases of 2010, and continues to impress and surprise with each and every remix EP. Having already been treated to the wonderful revisions of 'Random Violence' (Joris Voorn) and 'Leonor's Lanugo' (Radio Slave), the Swiss 
producer continues to enthrall with his latest remix invitations... 

Being presented with the tools to create, does indeed give you a head start. However it is the vision, and skill to be able to realize it, that sets great producers apart. To say we have been presented with two outstanding revisions falls short of doing them justice, for French House legend I:Cube ('At Peace') and Berlin based producer Mark August ('The Sandbox'), have created two, quite outrageously brilliant masterpieces.

A Sag & Tre regular, born and bred Zürich native Jean Caillou is always trying to create an interesting, joyful and pleasant experience with his art. A showcase of fresh talent from the global electronic scene, Anjunadeep’s Explorations series returns this June for its tenth instalment. This time around we welcome a stellar lineup; six Anjunadeep alumni in Luttrell, Michael Cassette, Antic, Marsh, Just Her, and Fluida, and two label debutants in Wassu and Elif, all of whom will be playing at Anjunadeep: Explorations in Albania this summer.

An update on his 2016 belter ‘Need You’, Luttrell’s ‘Need You Now’ makes special use of his own vocals, building to a euphoric finish typical of the Beatport top ten producer.

After 8 years, Michael Cassette returns with the nostalgic ’Shadows Movement (Solar Energy Remake)’. An update on his 2008 label classic, the cut affirms Cassette’s high-energy production is as powerful as ever.

His fourth release on Anjunadeep, Antic’s mesmerisingly intense ‘Next Time’ plies his own vocals amongst a deep, acid-led arrangement perfect for those late hot nights.

A sure staple of summer 2019, ‘Like You’ is a collaboration between Marsh and New York producer and friend Wassu (FKA Weston Butler). This sweet cut sees Marsh’s own vocal drift on top of a sublime chord progression and distant field recordings.

A darker turn, Just Her’s invigorating ‘Nothing But Time’ marks the Brighton-based producer and Essential New Tune recipient’s third Explorations appearance.

Exotic duo Fluida return to Anjunadeep for their third release ‘Indian Kicks’; the track’s uplifting arrangement and rousing percussion stemming from samples of their own field recordings in India.

Closing out the release is the enlivening ‘Random Act of Kindness’, from label debutant Elif. Istanbul born, Amsterdam-based, Elif’s nomadic lifestyle is reflected in her multi-faceted production.

After a year-long hiatus, Cubicolor proudly announce their newest single ‘Points Beyond’, lifted from their upcoming sophomore album ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’. Featuring Tim Digby-Bell’s flanged vocals on an arrangement of outboard synthesisers and instrumentation, ‘Points Beyond’ marks an emphatic return for the trio. 

Blurring the organic and electronic divide with their introspective sound, Cubicolor’s 2016 debut album ‘Brainsugar’ saw praise by Mixmag, Spin, and Clash, and garnered support from a host of heavyweight DJs including Pete Tong, Joris Voorn, and Kölsch.  Accumulating over 40M streams, the album solidified the trio as a unique voice in the European underground, a reputation they look to build on with their follow-up LP, out early 2020.
