This month, we explore the concept of anicca, the Buddhist word for impermanence or change. The mix weaves through sounds that are bombastic vs modest, dark vs light, groovy vs trippy, haunting vs heavenly, and so on...My approach to DJing is to keep sounds and feelings in a constant state of flux, never getting stuck in a single place. I believe a well-crafted mix is a metaphor for life: anicca, anicca...constantly changing, changing...

What more to say about Adriatique that hasn't already been said. Their mixsets are staples of the Cityfox podcasts for obvious reason. But this, a live recording from The Cityfox Experience: Enclave on April 5, 2014 in Brooklyn, demonstrates exactly why they've ascended so quickly to becoming favorites the world over to those fortunate enough to hear them live. Taking the decks after an opening from Naveen G (Listen to his full set, here: bit.ly/NGCF2014), they jumped right in, building pressure, the perfect anticipation for what they then unleashed. The spring was sprung, and it was entirely too much fun.

As Rebellion’s 2025 release schedule continues with the likes of Avision, Denney, and D.Ramirez, the Crosstown Rebels sub-label welcomes Toúcanplay with their four-track EP, ‘Coco Bongo’ landing on 21st March. The Manchester duo, aka Martin Costa and Jeziah Hinds, bring a sound that blends Deep Tech, House and Rominimal House influences, showcased through their releases on Andhera Records, LaZic, and Distance. Now making their label debut on Damian Lazarus’ Rebellion, Toúcanplay delivers a seamless blend of evolving rhythms and rich instrumentation that push the boundaries of their sound.

“We’re always looking for unique sounds, instruments or vocals for our music, and this EP is a perfect reflection of this. Blending congas & bongo percussion with dub elements, flutes and even didgeridoos, we’ve created a dynamic and immersive experience. It means a lot to us to release this on Rebellion, a place where we can showcase the depth and variety of our sound.” - Toúcanplay.

Opening the EP, ‘Coco Bongo’ immerses listeners in dark, tunnelling percussion, unleashing relentless energy that surges through the veins of the underground. Next, ‘Deep In The Jungle’ echoes its name, pulling you through a labyrinth of eerie, twisting sounds that grow more intense with each beat. ‘Ooga Booga’ steps in next with lively bongo hits, smooth, flowing rhythms, and soft, tranquil vocals, filling the air with a warm groove. Finally, ‘Roots Run Deep’ delivers a smooth, resonating bassline, interwoven with peaceful, natural sounds and evolving melodies—a fitting conclusion to Toúcanplay’s vision of creating immersive, genre-blurring music.

„Die meisten der neun Stücke des Albums "Left Handed" sind letzten Dezember entstanden“, erinnert sich @daniel-steinberg. Er kam damals von einem Auftritt nach Hause und ist beim Rumtänzeln über seine eigenen Füße gestolpert. Die Folge war ein verstauchter rechter Arm: „Dadurch war ich produktionstechnisch etwas gehandicapt und konnte die meisten Sachen nur mit links machen. Glück im Unglück, dass ich Linkshänder bin!“

Chicago born, London-based Kate Simko is a classically trained composer and electronic music producer. For over a decade now, Kate has been affirming her status as one of dance music’s standout artists. Her catalogue includes releases on Get Physical, Hello?Repeat, Leftroom, No.19 and most recently, Sasha’s Last Night On Earth imprint.

While studying music at Northwestern University in Chicago, Kate began DJing on WNUR radio and taking jazz piano lessons, which inspired a shift to composing. Kate recorded her first album in Chile with Andres Bucci in 2002, and has since released three albums, various EPs, and film soundtracks.

A classically trained pianist with roots in Chicago house, her diversity as a musician is apparent throughout her productions. Whether remixing Philip Glass to Guy Gerber, or touring with interactive audio-visual live sets, she excels throughout. Named one of Chicago’s “Top 10 DJs” by XLR8R Magazine, Kate has performed at some of the world’s leading locations such as Panorama Bar, Warung, fabric, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Movement Festival, MUTEK, Eleven, Verboten, and Millennium Park. 

Now London-based, in 2014 Kate completed a masters in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music and launched her genre-bending project London Electronic Orchestra, which has performed at iTunes Festival, LEAF festival, Latitude Festival, the National Gallery, and Heart Ibiza.  

In fall 2015 Kate will release an  album with Tevo Howard on Last Night on Earth, and her debut London Electronic Orchestra EP on The Vinyl Factory.  Melodic, driving, jacking and funky, Kate’s distinctive sound continues to inspire dance floors across the globe.
