SETTING THE SCENE
I wrote and recorded Stop Walk Talk pre-pandemic but never felt there was a right time to share it. As we continue to live with and through COVID and head into the festive holidays with all its gloss and sparkle, now seems the perfect time to release it. 

MAKING TIME...
We often say we'll catch up soon with friends but things are just a little hectic right now. Or, there is the allure of today’s amazing gadgets, games and goodies that has convinced us buying more purchases means more happiness. 

...FOR EACH OTHER
All this distraction can result in our forgetting the little things that matter a lot: making time for each other. Stop Walk Talk is about being open enough to say ‘I need you, I miss our chats’. And not being scared of saying it. 

We don’t always know what someone is going through, but if we gave them some time, we might… Who knows, we might have a good laugh as well!

Making Music Accessible

Yesterday’s arrival of our first morning frost inspired a simple 60-second piece shared on social media: me, the guitar and four finger picking chords.

Heaven in Your Eyes

'If I Can Breathe' is the first of eight songs in the Double Take series. The Double Take project is a nod to the singles that came out in the 60's whereby the b-side was equally as good as the a-side. As a songwriter, I first write my songs on the guitar. However, songs have a life of their own and need to blossom in their own way. The Double Take Project allows them to come into their own, to have their own voice.

If I Can Breathe (Acoustic)

If I Can Breathe was released on December 18th. As part of the Double Take series, I'm releasing two versions of my songs. The Double Take project is a nod to the singles that came out in the 60’s whereby the b-side was equally as good as the a-side. As a songwriter, I first write my songs on the guitar. However, songs have a life of their own and need to blossom in their own way. The Double Take Project allows them to come into their own, to have their own voice.

This is a live recording that was filmed in December 2018. The acoustic studio recording is awesome, but that was before I met Mike McKenzie after returning to Edinburgh earlier this year after six years in the States. Mike is a great drummer and piano player and on many of the new 'Double Take' songs, he adds real energy to a song when performed in front of a live audience.

If I Can Breathe (Live Sessions)

This is one of seven up-tempo songs I’m releasing. The beat was inspired by songwriter Tom Walker who posted a 30-second video on Instagram of him playing to a small festival crowd. I loved the rhythm, which is not one I normally write with, so set about trying something new. Also new is the story of the song. This is for all the shy people in the world and how folks tell you to get out more. It’s about avoiding ‘acquaintance’ friendships and holding out for real ones: they last longer and will make you happier

Every move is a move beyond the pale
We’re trying to push ourselves a little further towards a better place
That feeds our heaven not our hell
We’re swimming in synchronicity beyond the ripples and the swell

Shadow

This song accompanied the end credits of the movie The Accountant. It made a real impact, so much so that I wanted to share it. The original is by the fantastic songwriter Sean Rowe.

Leave Something Behind (cover) - The Kitchen Sessions

Soulful balladeer Kathy Muir conjures enlightened songs that paint vivid landscapes of her journey as she transforms elements of pop and folk into brand-new sounds. Her warm voice glides through lyrics that unfold like the words of an inviting diary. They are joined by ethereal guitar melodies and rhythms of an orchestra of other instruments that help tell the story of a traveled life. 

Scottish-born Muir has released three albums. In 2017 she released lo-fi EP 2+2=4, more indie-led than her previous, acoustic-folk offerings. She spent most of 2018/19 working on eight songs to complete the 'Double Take Series' and four singles. 'If I Can Breathe' was the first in the series to be released.

With the arrival of COVID, Muir took a hiatus, the Double Take Series put on hold, and recording in her Connecticut recording studio.

Stop Walk Talk, released on 17 December 2021 is the beginning of Muir’s journey back to releasing her work.
