This song is about the various open mic events that I have attended since August of 2022.  These nights are a great way to boost one's confidence, and to get used to performing in front of a live audience.  I know myself that i have definitely improved over the time I have played at these various venues, and it ties back into a song that i wrote in the Club called "Rock The Funk Out" to the theme "Senses".  The chorus contains the line "get up on that folking stage," and I have done just that while meeting people and making new friends along the way!  There is just so much undiscovered talent out there, and open mic nights are a haven for not only showcasing these individuals but group acts as well.  Some of these events have a heavy emphasis on collaboration, and this to me is when the magic really happens and the overall vibe goes through the roof!  I have also been to a number of open jam nights, where you can choose to perform solo or have other musicians join you on stage.  I have sampled both of these, and have absolutely enjoyed myself every single time!

The song's title comes from an organiser of several open mic events who goes by the name Dan Munn.  He used to run the event at Tiger Eye Bar in Brisbane's Petrie Terrace on Monday nights, but now that particular night has moved to a new venue called Miss Demeanour which is located in the heart of Brisbane City.  Dan hosts several of these open mics each week, with one even doubling as an open jam session which can very quickly become a free for all where pretty much anything goes!  You never know who's going to appear on the night, as Dan attempts to "build a band" with whoever rocks up to perform!  This band-building concept sounds very familiar to me, due to my years of experience using the online music collaboration site called Bandhub.  Since that site shut down, I have wanted to take these collaboration skills offline and into "the real world," and finally I have been able to achieve this!  I look forward to plenty more of these events to come in future!

When I first thought of the theme "Longitude", the song that I wrote for the theme "Latitude" came to mind.  On that occasion, I wrote about my brother and what he does for a living.  For this week's submission, I started by making a list of things that take a long time to do.  I mentioned shifts at work that are longer than ten hours, movies that are longer than two hours, five-set tennis matches, Test cricket matches that go the whole five days, and road trips.  That last one took me back to when I was in the USA in 2005, and we basically drove to all the different places we visited.  I think it was about a ten-hour drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco, and from memory it probably took a few days to reach our destination.  It also had me thinking about music friends of mine who drive up to Central Queensland from Brisbane and back again to perform at gigs and to visit family members.  The movie "Road Trip" from the year 2000 also briefly came to mind, but my song is not about that at all..
