I wrote "Dancing On The Highway of Life" back in the 80's when I was extremely busy on the ranch with family and working at my music career.  It's raised a few eyebrows but I still believe, "I wasn't born to seek...I was born to find"...and I love wearing his dancing shoes!  The artwork is by Wendy Liddle from my book "Well Hell".

Just Maybe

"Rainbow Pot Of Gold" was the theme song for the 1987 South Cariboo Children's Festival.  It was an assembly teaching song in many schools for the big weekend.  I was also on the Louis Cutler Show in Kamloops with children singing this song.  To this day I have adults coming up to me and saying, "I remember you.  You came to my school and taught me a song!"  This song is full of hand actions.  Make the rainbow over your head with your arms coming up and then each spreading out left and right.  Hold the pot with one hand and count the nuggets (smiles) with your other hand.  Don't forget to point to yourself, "I'm really special."

This song is a collaboration between Buddy Gale and myself, Katie Kidwell.  Originally a poem by Buddy called "Beauty";  additional lines and music made it a song.  Recorded by Gordon Maxwell who is known as Ian Tyson's bass player of many years.  I am playing the autoharp in the recording.  I took the photo for Beauty in Exeter Valley headed out to the Highlands where the cattle are in the distance.  When I was kid this was always a great place to ride.

This recording is a demo done in Vancouver while Gordon was getting his hair cut.  While waiting, I asked Rocko if I could just be recorded with my voice and guitar and then do a harmony.  I also wanted to play my spurs in it...He said yes.  "Spurs Of A Texas Outlaw" is in my Meadow Show acoustic recordings here, minus the spurs and harmony. This song is a collaboration between Glen Rafuse (words) and myself, Katie Kidwell (music).  Glen wrote poetry under the pen name of "Starchild" .  Ted Stone who published several books of poetry, thanked me for introducing him to Starchild's work back in the 90's.  Glen was a true friend and I hope he is spending time now, around the campfire, along the Fraser.

The Mighty Fraser/Starchild/Kidwell

The theme song to the album "Meadow Show" went into the studio one day.  Away from its acoustic sound here, there is a peaceful sense with Gordon Maxwell playing his fretless bass.  The meadow I loved on the ranch inspired this song.  The sandhill cranes who came and the moose that weaved through the willows.  The picture is circa the 1980s with me standing in front of the curtained window with the best view of the LongHorn Meadow.
