If I ever need something to make me smile, then this recording will get the job done! This is my arrangement of September by Earth, Wind & Fire for brass band. I was lucky enough to have it recorded by the amazing Reg Vardy brass band. Not a perfect recording (sound quality not my fault), a few mistakes, but the band did a spectacular job considering they were sight reading. I have a wind band arrangement of an Earth, Wind & Fire Medley (inc. the songs "Let's Groove Tonight", "After the Love Has Gone" and "Fantasy") but no recording. If it's actually possible, might upload just the sibelius track of it! Currently working on a wind band arrangement of Boney M's "Sunny"!

September (live) - brass band arrangement

Sorry about the crappy sibelius export! This medley includes the songs "Let's Groove Tonight", "After The Love Has Gone" and "Fantasy" (well worth waiting until the end for that one!). As I'm sure you CAN'T tell (because of the tinny sibelius sounds) this is in fact a wind band arrangement. I did have a live recording, but wasn't happy with it, because I'd been a tool and put the clarinets up far too high for anybody's ears to cope with at one point!

Earth, Wind & Fire Medley (MIDI)

Again, sorry for the horrid sibelius sounds! This is another wind band arrangement of one of my favourite disco songs at the moment. I've been a little bit obsessed to be honest. The drum part is incomplete at the moment, which you could probably hear. There is meant to be a drum fill in the second to last bar (which is currently occupied by nothing but silence)! Loving the cheesy key changes throughout though!

Katie Davies is a freelance musician, who is currently based in central Edinburgh. Her work is varied, dividing her time between teaching piano and music theory, working as an associate musician of Drake Music Scotland and, of course, exploring her passion for composition and arrangement. 

Katie studied at Durham University, gaining her BA(Hons) Music in 2012. It was here that she discovered her love of arrangement, particularly 70s and 80s funk music for large and small ensemble. Katie now regularly arranges commissioned works for local bands. Katie also developed an interest in music therapy during her time at Durham, completing the Nordoff-Robbins Introduction to Music Therapy short course. Katie now explores her love of working with people with disabilities on a daily basis at Drake Music Scotland. Her sessions combine elements of education, creativity, improvisation, performance and a lot of fun. 

Another service that Katie offers is private piano and music theory tuition. Katie teaches all ages and levels and strives to improve her students' musicianship as well as technical ability. Katie encourages students to sit the ABRSM examinations and has a 100% pass rate. 

It was teaching that gave Katie the inspiration for her latest collection of pieces, The Cat's Pyjamas. This fun collection of jazz/modern piano solo pieces is aimed at intermediate players. Each piece is designed to pose a certain rhythmic challenge, which is the educational focus of the collection. Each piece is programmatic and has a unique character and compelling theme. Katie's intention has always been to make music that finds a balance between the overly simplistic and the inaccessibly challenging. Above all, Katie endeavoured to compose fun and satisfying pieces to play. The Cat's Pyjamas was named after the opening piece, which captures and represents the playful personality of the collection, which is one of its most appealing aspects. 

Katie has been composing since her childhood. Her style has developed over the years and she has now adopted a striking harmonic palette, which is central to her compositions. Katie mostly composes Romantic free form character pieces, which have an interesting fluidity between themes.
