Last mix of the year for me.  This was mix dedicated to release and removing obstacles as we enter the new year.  2023 here I come!

First of the new year comin in hot!  This one came through quicker than any other mix I have done.  With the theme "ask for what you want", when I know what I want and I ask for it - it comes, and it comes quick!  Enjoy this mix it is one of my favorites!

Ecstatic Dance Dallas - Ask For What You Want

This soupy and amoeba-like set layers ambient drones, arpeggios, and textures to create a slow sonic swell.

Primordial - Ecstatic Dance Dallas Warm-Up

this mix is about the courage it takes to stretch oneself into a new endeavor. i watched some videos of ferns unfurling and noticed how the process is almost jerky - they unwind a bit, then stagger and wobble, before continuing to unfold. it reminded me in some ways of baby deer finding their feet for the first time, how the flop around a bit before figuring out how their limbs work.

Unfurl - Dallas Movement Collective

this set was an improvisational composition for an opening warm-up before an ecstatic dance at Dallas Movement Collective. it's comprised of layered tones and textures intended to move listeners into a meditative space. 

after the set, two participants mentioned that it made them want to scream into the void, and i took that as inspiration for the name.

on a personal note: i am having a ton of fun playing around with this style of drone-y, ambient music and i'm starting to look at layering some of these into my traditional ecstatic dance sets!

The Void - Dallas Movement Collective Warm-Up

this mix was played for the Halloween Masquerade at Dallas Movement Collective, and it's a really different, specific kind of set from me.

i was really inspired by the irish legend of the bean sídhe, or banshees as we've come to know them. banshees are female spirits who live in mounds of earth in the countryside and foretell death with their distinctive screams. these death omens intrigued me as a metaphor for female grief and dread, and felt like a properly spooky approach to a halloween set.

the set starts out in this dark, scary, spooky place, and moves into a more fun, energetic, and nostalgic energy. i like my halloween sets to encompass the things i think are most fun about halloween: the safe exploration of fear, feeling like a kid again, and the rushes of sugar and staying up late!

Working on My Energy - Dallas Movement Collective - Breath in Motion workshop

i rang in the new year with my Dallas Movement Collective community, and it was fkn awesome.

the last time i DJed a new year's set, it was 2019 into 2020. at the time, i was so confident in all of the things i was going to do and achieve that year. despite my proclamations that it was going to be "my year," it was not, in fact, my year at all. this year, instead of trying to predict or plan, i simply want to work on staying in my body more so that i can move through the chaos with more grace.

in this new approach, i became fascinated by the metaphor of a black hole. a black hole occurs when a star dies and collapses on itself to create an epic gravitational pull. that pull becomes so strong that after pushing over the event horizon, not even light can escape. and what's inside that portal? we don't really know. time and space aren't linear and don't work in the same way they do in our reality.

the portal is chaotic, dark, and deep - but we eventually emerge to the other side. <3

i played this mix at my friend Aubrey Warren's release party for her book "Sleeping Beauty Awakened: Tools for the Modern Goddess." i've known Aubrey for many years and i have always admired her upbeat, positive energy and desire to continually show up and put work in.

given the subject of the book, i thought it would be fun to dive into a goddess theme for this mix, even though i am admittedly a bit allergic to what i perceive to be a bit of a cheesy vibe around goddess culture in spiritual communities. so i challenged myself to work with goddess energy, while still retaining my own signature style. what came out was a bad bitch vibe.

i wanted to honor goddesses from multiple cultures in this set, including: Kali, Athena, Aphodite, Amaterasu, Guanyin, Oshun, and Brigid. i also wanted to include indigenous voices such as SNOW BIRD (Sahka) and Elisapie (Inuk).

Wild Woman

this mix examines the things that are constant in life - maybe your heartbeat, or your lifelong best friend, or your drive to express yourself creatively. but also, maybe your impostor syndrome, or mental health challenges, or a particular contentious relationship. 

this line of inquiry also brought me to dive into the myth of Sisyphus, whose constant was an eternity of rolling a ball up a hill, only to see it roll back down to restart the whole process. and what happens when a constant transforms into a variable? as one dancer reminded me, the only constant is change.

i recently played at Somatika in Austin to kick off my spring 2024 tour! since it was my first time playing for this lovely collection of humans, i really wanted to give a proper introduction that showed my style and philosophy to the dancers. i am dedicated to the embodied expression of emotions through movement, with musical journeys that support cathartic experiences. this set was all about the range of human emotions and i invited dancers to feel what was true for themselves in their bodies at all times.

this mix is about suffering when becoming attached to outcomes. it's about not feeling good enough, wondering "what if," struggling with loneliness, experiencing desperation, feeling like time is running out, stewing in regret, pining for what used to be, and just being fuckin' sad.

the path of healing is rarely a straight line, and this mix deals with learning how to get underneath pain to see what wisdom lies beneath.

for the first time in my just about 15 years of making ecstatic dance mixes, i don't quite know what this one was about. i usually create from a place of inspiration by a theme, whether that's something going on in my life, or a story i've read recently, or perhaps a universal myth. 

the theme was not made clear to me in the creation of this set, and part of my process with this mix was persevering and continuing to create despite not having a clear goal in mind. totally trusting the music and the framework of the wave to hold space for whatever showed up for dancers. focusing on the body, and the music as a pathway into movement.

this mix was inspired by a mental health meme i saw that really resonated. it described someone who had been working on a personal issue for a long time, very diligently, and had finally gotten to a place where they felt like they were conquering the thing. then, they got triggered out of left field right in that spot and reacted in an outsized way. they were speaking with their therapist, lamenting about how they could have worked so hard just to have this same issue rear its ugly head again. the therapist responded that it made sense, because "everything screams before it dies."

this idea really struck me, and i started to formulate a mix around the idea of "the last gasp" of one of these old patterns fighting for one last breath before releasing.

The Last Gasp - Dallas Movement Collective

I played this set at the Goddess Awakening Music and Arts Festival in Hartman, AR. This woman-owned festival featured a nearly 70% women and femme lineup and is one of my favorite festival experiences of all time. I brought a bass-focused multi-genre set to introduce this crowd to me as a musician. It was insanely fun and I'm very grateful for the experience! Props to the amazing production team that brought this incredible festival to life.

Show Me How Your Body Moves - Goddess Awakening Festival

I played this set for the Halloween Masquerade at Dallas Movement Collective on October 18, 2025. 

My Halloween sets lately have been taking a specfic type of form. I start with inspiration from a mythological creature. This year, the siren called to me. 

Sirens are part mermaid, part bird creatures who live in the water and use their song to lure sailors to their peril on the shore. I found lots of possibility in the concept, especially in how it relates to themes of desire, confidence, and tempting fate. 

The other part of my Halloween sets has been to explore FUN, especially the nostalgic variety. Being able to dive into some Halloween classic tunes that bring me back to childhood has brought so much joy. And it’s been great watching the dance just get silly and playful and not take itself so seriously! My mixes tend to deal with strong emotions and deep or heavy themes, so it’s fun sometimes to be dorky, goofy, and enjoy some play.

This mix was born out of a very chaotic time in my life, where things that felt long-held and secure for years started unraveling at an incredibly fast pace. I started thinking about our bodies as a landscape and our emotions as a compass, or a way to work through the complexities of life, especially when things get shaken up in ways outside our control.

I Think I Like It - River Rave Year 6

This set, performed on the summer solstice, was inspired by the sun's journey in the sky - from dawn, through rising, to high noon, to sunset, to dusk, and total darkness. The ecstatic dance wave perfectly mimics this process, so I wanted to bring it to life through music.

We Make Beauty Out of Anguish

Whew. Things been a bit chaotic for you? WEIRD, ME TOO. ;) This mix is an exploration of my relationship to chaos. Especially if chaos is a comfort zone, it can feel normal to live in extremes instead of rooting into  balance. The world is pretty wild and crazy right now, and while I can't always control my circumstances, I can control my reaction to them.

This mix was played in Seattle at OmCulture for Ecstatic Dance Seattle. It features a double peak structure, which is different than how I normally compose sets, but I had fun with it! (A version of this set with a single peak was played for Dallas Movement Collective.)

Meet katiedid, a multi-genre artist bringing catharsis to dance floors. As an ecstatic dance DJ and dedicated force in the world of journey-based dance music, she creates hypnotic containers and eclectic musical landscapes that invite dancers to express a full spectrum of emotions. Since her debut in 2009, katiedid has curated hundreds of open format dance sets that travel through a wide span of genres, including (but never limited to) house, drum and bass, indietronica, contemporary classical, soul, funk and ambient. 

katiedid is also a pianist and electronic producer who makes original music as one half of the band Beckon (other half: Chelsee Cynesthesia), as well as layered and textured solo ambient jams.
