The Bubonic Plague, also known as the Black Death and The Pestilence is the most deadly and famous plague of all history, killing over 50 million people in the mid 14th century. It was vicious in it’s spread, symptoms, and mortality, killing up to 60% of Europe’s population in a span of two decades. Joining me is Megan Piasecki, a fellow plague fanatic and history enthusiast, who will be giving us the grisly details of his fatal disease.

The Black Death

A disease with a 30% mortality rate, killing over 400,000 in the 18th-century outbreak, responsible for the majority of death among indigenous Americans. Smallpox was a leading cause of death in the 18th century, with a fatal average of 3 out of 10 people dying from it, and leaving those who survived with extensive scarring and potential blindness. Nick Hughes, a history major, and smallpox enthusiast joins us as we dive into the old world of the most scarring epidemic.

Smallpox

Also known as influenza, the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918 is considered the “mother of all pandemics”. Affecting one-third of the world’s population and killing up to 50 million people, the flu came in several waves and killed its victims quickly, often within a matter of hours or days, killing more U.S. soldiers in World War I than battle. Gavin O’Connor, a history student and flu fanatic joins us while we dive into the most untamed disease of the modern world.
