Berlin-based duo Aaaron & Deckert continue their path out of the darkness and into the light with the 'Shadows' EP on Chapter 24.

They are joined by a third Berliner - the accomplished DJ, vocalist and songwriter Meggy - on the A-side. It's a powerful, rolling cut, textured and full of swagger, set off by Meggy's dusky signature vocal that combines equal parts darkness and soul.

Three Editions add to the mix and each offer a different flavour. Label regular JOBE throws in cosmic flair and tension, perfect for peak time. Meanwhile, rising star Sobek reimagines the harmony of the track to bring extra emotion and mystery to proceedings. KatrinKa's rework is deep and hypnotic, punctuated with piano stabs and gently enveloping synth lines.

The package is completed by 'Hide' on the flip. Bumping tribal toms set the scene before a killer synth line takes hold. All in all it's a feel good affair, though not completely black and white.

Out of the night and lit by moonlight, Aaaron & Deckert make their ascent on Chapter 24.

The 28th Chapter sees Djuma Soundsystem team up with Westerby for our latest story in sound: the cosmic afro tech of ‘Disambigua’.

Now based in Copenhagen, Norwegian artist Djuma Soundsystem was catapulted into the public's consciousness over a decade ago with his club classic 'Les Djinns' on Get Physical Music. His organic, sample-heavy signature sound is the perfect combination with fellow Copenhagen artist Westerby’s rougher, analogue synths and techy edges.

‘Disambigua’, their much-anticipated follow up to smash hit ‘Koma Kobache’ (Get Physical), is a standout cut which is already turning heads on dancefloors across Europe with its dark groove and killer vocal hook.

Rising star Jonathan Kaspar (Objektivity, Pets Recordings) is first up on the Editions, where he takes things deep. Built around the interplay of synth lines in call and response, his rework is a pure bass monster.

Meanwhile, label regular KatrinKa marks her latest release on Chapter 24 with an Edition that places the emphasis on a trademark infectious groove, paired with a spiritual melodic motif; a perfect balance of darkness and light.

The package is rounded out by Aaaron. The in-demand producer has worked with everyone from Defected and Get Physical to (more recently) Connected and Yoshitoshi. He focuses on deep, powerful drums in a version heavy on tension.

With this latest Chapter there can be no doubt: four different flavours of ‘Disambigua’ which together add up to a clear and coherent whole.

For our next podcast HMWL presents Katrinka from Chapter 24 records, who delivers a sensual mix incorporating ethnic vibes and beautiful soundscapes giving us a glimpse of this talented tastemakers vision. Crystal clear and uplifting, perfect for dreaming into the horizon.

Originally from Russia, KatrinKa has been based in London for more than ten years now. As a classically-trained pianist, she brings her skill, unique style and ear for engaging music to bear on her original productions, remixes and performances.
In 2015, KatrinKa signed to London-based Chapter 24 Records.
Behind the decks, KatrinKa is already making waves as a professional and versatile booking, playing a variety of genres including deep and tech house, techno and minimal. As one of Chapter 24's core artists, KatrinKa is a resident at their regular label showcases as well as co-hosting a monthly radioshow with label boss Más Black on bloop.
The last couple of years have seen her play in Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Ukraine and her native Russia, including appearances at international music festivals such as ADE, Sónar and TAV.

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With ‘Rebirth', Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists all across the world to bring these themes to life, the seventh and final iteration in this compilation series.

South African star Bruce Loko (Get Physical, Freerange) opens proceedings with the deep, melodious textures of Cyclone, whipping up the ethereal eye of the storm. Chapter 24 regular Kieran Apter is next, making good the tension with the impactful 6.10.21 Break. Such is the power of this track that it propels the listener into new sonic dimensions.

Kostakis (Get Physical, Katermukke) offers up Xerxes, which is equally big and conjures up the dusty, mysterious and impenetrable planes of the desert. Meanwhile, Acumen returns to the imprint in collaboration with Pontias. Shower for Hours is a pumping, techy number bound to get the dancefloor bouncing before opening out into a euphoric peak.

The compilation closes out with a high quality trio. Label favourite KatrinKa delivers the typically deep groove of ABAF. DJ Zombi (Beat Boutique) takes things further down into a dreamy and blissful space with Steph. The honour of closing out the final Seven Stories befalls Hope Recordings and Soundgarden legend Nick Warren and the talented Nicolas Rada, who revisit Anton Dhouran’s Valhalla Rising. Their Edition is fittingly deep, transportative and dramatic.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away one final time...
