Never Be Alone est une très belle balade signée par le Suisse Nicolas Bassi. Avec une intro assez longue, la partie guitare est particulièrement soignée sur l'Original Mix. La voix claire et plaintive de la chanteuse D.C. donne un côté pop interssant au morceau, loin des grosses voix traditionnelles des divas Soulful. Gary Lavin réalise deux excellentes versions avec le SoulFunky Evening Mix qui renforce la partie fretted et le Sunshine Mix avec ses fx's spatiaux. Une bonne galette dispo dès aujourd'hui sur le label Choochmusic.

Nicolas Bassi Feat D.C - Never Be Alone (Main Mix)

House Afrika Classics celebrates a golden and soulful era on South African dancefloors, and it's one of the coolest and classiest listens of the year.

At the junction of the early '90's a new breed of beats - with a sound that nodded towards soul, disco and acid jazz - began to be picked up by local DJs like Christos, Vinny, Bob Mabena and Positive K.

Kwaito and mid-tempo had been around for a few years, and the deeper and more repetitive sounds introduced by the likes of DJ Fresh were still a few years away, and here was house suited to the dawn of a new decade: reaffirming, uplifting, glossy and musical.

It was also laced with vocal licks from some of the greatest singers of the era (in fact, of any era), including Lisa Stansfield, Lenny Williams, Alexander O'Neal, Victoria Wilson James and Deborah Cox, who are all represented on this sterling CD (O'Neal is included twice).

A number of top-notch producers were also playing in this positivistic pool and make appearances on 'Classics'; they include prolific producer/remixer David Morales (who's featured on two cuts, including a magical remix of Incognito), the masterful Marshall Jefferson, former Deee-Lite member Towa Tei and Grammy-winning super-producer Dallas Austin, better known for R&B but turning his deft hand to a swinging and sentimental uptempo number here.

These ten cuts will take many back to a richer time in dance music, when singers, strings and keyboard strokes abounded on our dancefloors; for the uninitiated it'll be a splendid education in house's wiser, lusher ways.
