A furiously funky stormer from Brass Construction – given a slight extra kick in a remix by Kenny Dope – and puzzling titled given that the group's incredible pace! As usual, Kenny does nothing to diminish the vibe of the original groove – which is a real maelstrom built from pummeling drums, groovy keys and a truly incredible horn arrangement that manages a clean tone and unbridled funk at the same time! The vocals are of the harmony team variety as opposed to the gritty howling variety – in the spirit of Kool & The Gang at their funkiest!

A mellow groover that's totally wonderful, and done in a sound that's a far cry from the TK hits of earlier years! There's a solid stepping sophistication to the track that's totally great – a bit like Lew Kirton, but even more like Leroy Hutson or some of the best mellow groove meisters of a few years previous! "Love Was Really Meant For You" is slower and even mellower – a great late nite track with a seductive quiet storm sound!

"Stay Together" starts slow and heavy with this weird sing-song part that almost makes you think the song's a tripped-out one – but then suddenly, the whole thing explodes, and the band picks up the pace tremendously – really jamming over some tight funky drums, while the members call out some super-righteous lyrics!

Sweet jazzy soul from Spade Brigade – two tracks that are totally great, and both completely obscure! "I'm Your Man" begins with some great riffing on guitar – jamming around with a sound that's sweet and bubbling, but still plenty funky – yet the vocals are even more amazing – a Clark Sisters-like female chorus, set against a strong male lead who really bursts out with the title lyric! "Makin Love In The Morning" is mellower, but still wonderful too – a slow-stepping track that reminds us of Leroy Hutson or Leon Ware at their mid 70s best!

	The Soul Severes were a very short lived group of nine young & hungry musicians from the St. Nicolas Houses in Harlem, New York City. Most notably, the group counted a young Patrick Adams as a member. Adams arranged and played keyboards on “I Got It” and it was his first and the group’s only recording. The group’s sole single was made just before members agreed to trade in their Soul Severes name for a more immediately promising identity as Black Ivory’s band. So, although short lived and almost unrecorded, “I Got It” exhibits the extent to which Severes had it, showcasing the influence of Kool & The Gang’s archetype among a yet to be tallied number of obscure Tri-Sate funk acts. Horn players included a Ramon Sweat, none other than Keith Sweat’s younger brother… and so fittingly, “I Got It” anticipates the New Jack Swing era in a big way: sounding as much like a lost Beatnuts instrumental as it does a funk 45 from 1969. Wherever your ear might place them, Kenny Dope’s edit of these two lost sides is a heavy, heavy sound - don’t miss it this time around.

Following the tumultuous riots of the late 60's, youths in Washington, DC were looking for two things: positivity and an outlet to relieve tension. MUGO, aka "Music, Unity, Guidance, & Organization", offered just that. Formed by 8 high school friends during the summer of 71', this high-octane machine was driven by Manager and retired Marine Sgt. Reuben McNair Sr. His son, Reuben McNair Jr., was a leader within the group, and consequently wrote the B-side of their only public release. This cut, entitled "Space Travel", boasts a driving rhythm section as well as synthesizer overdubs likely to captivate even musically ambitious extraterrestrials. The flip, "Organize", became the group's unofficial theme song; submitting to the public a deft vocal response to rampant inner city blues.
