I started producing these hard beats and synths, but still wanted to implement a feeling that repetitively burns into people's mind on the dance floor. Along with my friend AEYA we categorised some stages into "darkness" (nightlife and the typical club surroundings), "intensity" (walls of sound, strobes, escalating people), "oblivion" (getting lost in the situation), "unconsciousness" (physical collapse) and what you see next, a blazing bright light that suddenly surrounds you, "brightness". I recorded AEYA's voice saying these words, added a tinnitus sound which starts at 3:25 or heavily after the second drop at 5:13 and the track was finished. 

Brightness: I always loved uncompromising, straight techno music with dark attitude. When I recently had this interview with techno pioneer and former Mayday artist Christopher Just on my techno radio show „Sophisticated Rhythms“ on Evosonic Radio, we spoke about raves and events, especially in the 90s where people totally escalated on these still revolutionary new sounds until they sometimes even collapsed. I am a child of this era, too and wanted to create a track that reflects the different stages of such an experience.

Nobody Knows: I am a fan of inconclusive utterances. I started producing “Nobody Knows“ to reflect people's ignorance in understanding things in so many ways, but think they know it all . The sounds that I used give the track a certain drive and energy, but leaves listeners a little bit in the dark at the same time, due to their dissonance style. There's a bunch of melancholy paired with influences of dark Detroit stabs that create an ultimate and deep club feeling. I loved the idea of bringing these banging old school hihats into the game after the tracks' buildup at 0:55 and to generate a kind of unpredictable sound with the low-frequency synth that evolves here and therre and leads throughout the track. The threatful voice has been added as a final element. It's my own one, layered, down-pitched and passed through diverse filters.

Biography:

Kay Barton was born in North Germany in 1980. From just 14 years of age he started producing electronic music by using basic DOS operating software.

After moving to Southern Germany near Heidelberg in 1997, Kay was given the possibility to actually work on his career for the first time. Besides producing he started working as a DJ and ever since he plays dynamic techno and tech house sets.  Over the years Kay has played in many national and international locations, at events like or in the frameworks of Love Parade Berlin, Street Parade Zurich, G-Move Hamburg, Zug der Liebe Berlin as well as for several German broadcast transmitters and radio stations (e.g. Sunshine Live).   

Apart from bookings Kay regularly hosted numerous events dedicated to electronic music in different locations around the Rhine-Main area, such as “The Place To Be” or “Trendwaende”.  

After experimenting with electronic music under different artist names Kay now focuses on straight techno music under his real name Kay Barton. 
2016 he debuted here with his single “Return 01” which has been released on Belgian record label Bonzai. 2019 Kay’s EP “MacroGod“ appeared on Emerald & Doreen Records both digitally and on vinyl and along with remixes by Dr Motte and Mijk van Dijk. After releases at Berlin-based records labels Neuhain and Ballroom in 2020 he became regular artist at Trapez Records, Cologne. 2022 he released his first EP on IAMT (I Am Techno).
In his current event and mix series “Sophisticated Rhythms” he brings together different artists from the techno scene in either mix podcasts, live streams or club events. 

Since summer 2020 Kay hosts a monthly techno mix show, “Wiener Wohnzimmer” on Evosonic Radio.  
He lives in Vienna since 2021.
