Cache 002

"Unfinished Business": a new series where each mix is unfinished in some way... a story of music's unpredictable journey, from abandoned beats to broken hardware/software, embracing beautiful chaos and rough edges.

This first mix leans towards the downtempo side of things. I think of it as a lesson in both restraint and release. It ends abruptly, losing the last 10 minutes of what should have been recorded. I wasn't going to put it out until I had redone and completed it... But listening to it on a dark night, it turned out to be just what I needed to come back to life, so here goes nothing.

Unfinished Business 001

Cache 004 is a vinyl-only mix that is centered around IDM, breakbeat, drum & bass, jungle, and halftime, with hints of some other genres. It starts off with a powerful chant (go buy the track: https://mi-el.bandcamp.com/album/from-the-river-to-the-sea) before picking up and arranging the beats, and then destroying it.

Cache 005: I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A "Techno" Mix But This Is Literally the Way the Music Moved Me This Time

I was planning to make a techno-centric mix last weekend but that's not what happened. I went on a walk to listen to the new album 'New Blue Sun' by André 3000 and it completed changed my mindset and moved me to an opposite direction. So here's something that is ambient, downtempo, experimental, and with lots of texture. The title of this mix is a nod to the opening track on André 3000's album ("I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a 'Rap' Album but This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time"). Yes, the mix also opens with that track ✨

Cache 005: I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A "Techno" Mix But...

Kicking off the year with a bang and a beat. Recent travels to Europe and India played no small part in influencing where I went with Cache 006. This one is a (mostly) high energy mix with UK bass, garage, house, trance, and techno sounds that are laced with acid, breakbeat, and electro ⚡️⚡️

Cache 006

Cache 007 is an adventure ride through the world of breakbeat 🥁
It crosses boundaries of several genres – dub, hip-hop, soul, bass, garage, electro, EBM, drum & bass, IDM, rave, and even some dubstep – while maintaining flow and harmony. In this mix, I put my own spin to timeless tunes spanning decades of music, from 1972 to 2024, in a quest to showcase the magic and power of breaks in dance music 🔮

As summer approaches, for this mix, I wanted to channel the energy and moods of an outdoor rave... somewhere in a forest, a sandy beach/desert, the mountains, on a boat, or in your very own backyard 🌵 Cache 009 is an all-vinyl mix that takes you on a psychedelic, hypnotic, euphoric trip through space and time with flavors of acid, electro, house, techno, trance, breaks, and everything rave to keep you dancing 👣

Reviving the "Unfinished Business" series for this 1-hour mix that I had recorded last summer. It was originally meant to be a submission to NTS for their "Supporter Radio" series, with the theme this time being "heatwave". Kelly Lee Owen's version of Aaliyah's "More than a Woman" is a cornerstone tune in this mix, and it inspired the mood and flow. Shout out to my partner in rhyme "hot Jordan" aka DJ MoM (@jordan-bellman-441504977) for the inspiration.

Unfinished Business 002: tell me when too much is enough

This is a live recording of my set from the "Midweek Shuffle" party in Bangalore on 12 March, 2025. I played the 9:30–10:30 PM slot and went for a more *chill-yet-danceable* vibe with this one, slowing down all the way to 110 bpm for the beginning part 🪭 I was planning to turn it up a bit during the last 20 odd minutes of the set, but it got cut short to 45 minutes (more rant on this elsewhere lol). Anyways, I made full use of the 3 CDJs at hand and played a lot of favorites & tracks that I love! Thanks to all the dancers for vibing to something a bit more on the experimental side for a typical Bangalore night-out 👾

Midweek Shuffle Set (12 March 2025)

Live recording from the first edition of "read the room" at Indiranagar Social (Bangalore) on 18 April 2025. For this event, we experimented with a "round robin" format where kaydi, Zequenx (@zen_zanan), and Oceantied (@oceantiedmusic) sequentially took over the decks for 30-minutes each and then repeated the cycle until closing bells 🌀 What emerged was a blend of genres and styles that would not have been possible with any other format! This is a re-recording of my opening set at the 'Dans Punk' party at Indiranagar Social (Bangalore, India), organized by Focus Group Radio. There were some last-minute changes in the lineup due to a cancellation, and so I also changed my entire set plan a few hours before the show. 

I played a set where every track features one or more non-male artists or producers. We built up the room with a diverse range of genres and tempos, going from the 100 bpm range all the way to around 135 bpm while keeping it deep, bassy, dubby, groovy, and restrained.

I was invited to open up the 4-year anniversary celebrations of Bangalore-based "Jackfruit Dance Party". Since the party series is typically known for happier sounds, I played a bright and uplifting warm-up set, with old and new dubtechno, minimal, house, and techno tunes.

Unfortunately, the Tascam recorder only captured the right audio channel, while the left channel went silent (bad cable?). For this recording, I've duplicated the right channel to create a pseudo-stereo version – not ideal, but hey...

Erika @erikadotnet [Detroit, USA] is one of my favorite musicians and DJs worldwide, so it was an absolute honor to get the chance to play alongside her at BudxLoft Goa. I opened the night with an approx. 3 hour set spanning a wide range of tempos and styles before handing over the decks to Erika.

This one starts of gently with beautiful textures, halftime explorations, and a hint of trip-hop, and launches of later with some dubtechno and minimal into trippy techno, broken beats, a twist of rap & hip-hop, and plenty of psychedelia. The closing track is an unreleased Zequenx (@zen_zanan), fellow Erika fan, who was also in the room at the time ✨
