Binaural beats were originally discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. He discovered when signals of two different frequencies are presented separately, one to each ear, your brain detects the phase variation between the frequencies and tries to reconcile that difference. In doing so, as the two frequencies mesh in and out of phase, your brain creates its own third signal — called a binaural beat or isochornic tone — which is equal to the difference between those two frequencies.

A while back I got a call from a friend who needed a song for a movie called "Date and Switch". I was given lyrics from another writer and asked to compose, record and sing a jam. We called the collaboration "Holland Notes" for the sake of movie credits. It was supposed to hark to brat-pack era 80's films, so it needed to embody all the favorite multi-colored hightop flavors. I had to channel my inner simple mind.  It was so much fun, I kept on recording in that inspiration for the remainder of the week and finished my "Twisted Light" EP. Enjoy & have a cool new day!

My hard drives are personal art museums. Sometimes music I produce for others never gets the proper release and there it stays on the digital shelf for me alone to admire. 
Before I left Portland, James Low & Lewi Longmire asked me to produce a single for them called "I Met A Girl". I had them gather round a few mics, cranked up the tape echo and had them play and sing live. The song is a wonderful mix of destruction and hope and touched me deeply. When I was a kid, my friend Wes and I both bought cassette four tracks at the same time. For one entire hot Alabama summer we tried to freak each other out by what we were figuring out recording. 
One day Wes came over panting and exclaimed, "YOU HAVE TO FLlP THE TAPE OVER, IT'S BACKWARDS! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!" 
We then made the soundtrack of our lives through pitch shifted vocals, bass phasers, drum machines and an absorbent amount of free time.
