Breathe

Perth based singer Katie Whittaker of The Red Pine Timber Company, launched her debut solo single on Monday 20th June to coincide with World Refugee Day. Welcome To Life, written and performed by Katie, will be sold via various digital outlets with all of the profits being split equally between the Refugee Council UK and The Scottish Refugee Council. 
Recorded in the Stewart Room of The Salutation Hotel, Katie’s lyrics for the soulful ‘Welcome To Life’ are overflowing with hope and friendship, as she opens her heart to the young children, old women and entire families making the desperate journey from war torn Syria across Europe in hope of refuge. Katie has chosen to donate all proceeds from Welcome To Life to The Refugee Council UK and The Scottish Refugee Council. Selling through I-Tunes and  Googlfor 99p all profits will be sent straight to the charity in London who will then pass on 50% of all funds raised to Glasgow. She commented, 
“It has been an emotional journey, writing, recording and working towards the release of the single and I am so grateful to my family and music industry friends who have supported me in making this possible. I have two young children, and the images of families with babies and toddlers making their way across treacherous journeys moved me so much I felt I had to do something. I really do hope everyone buys the single and helps this great cause.” 
She will launch her single on Monday 20th June. This important date is World Refugee Day and also starts the Refugee Festival in Scotland. Performing it for the first time in public, Katie will be joined by fellow musicians in an open mic style evening and she welcomes musicians, fans and supporters from across to Perthshire to come down and join her. There will also be volunteers from The Scottish Refuge Council there who will be happy to chat about their work.

NOTES FOR PRESS Katie, who is originally from Brora in the Highlands, moved to Perth to study music at Perth College UHI some six years ago. She met Gavin Munro of, Red Pine Timber Company, almost immediately on arrival and has been singing with Perth’s Americana heroes ever since. This is the first time she has recorded on her own and when she takes to the stage at Glastonbury 2016, it will be her first big public outing as a solo artist. She will sing in Big Billy’s Radical Round-up, where she will be introduced by Billy Brag and part of a set of young new political singers who have something bigger to say. Those with tickets should head to the Leftfield Stage on Sunday at around 3.30pm. Welcome To Life

Only a few days left before the whole country votes in the General Election! I would like to use a song that I wrote for Glastonbury 2016 to remind all us 'Millennials' that this is our chance to be heard! We are unaccounted for in most polls but if we want change we have to do it ourselves, we cannot rely on older generations to vote on what's right for us and our future and our children's future without also having our say... the generation before us had it so good but it's time for them to realise that is no longer the reality and we want change! 
Vote the Tories out of your constituency and we can try to turn around the last 7-10 years of austerity and rewards for the rich.

She also has experience as a seesioneer in the recording studio and at live performances.
