He emerged from Kansas City, Missouri’s underground Hip Hop scene is R.O.B. (Reflection of Brilliance). Even with the influences of veteran artists like Nas, Jay Z, Tupac and Biggie, R.O.B. has his own unique style.  Being that he’s from the Midwest, a musical melting pot, you can expect his music not to have a definitive coastal identity, instead it is versatile.  His style is a clever blend of conscious Hip Hop and Gangster Rap.  
  
  
  In the early part of the 1990’s, R.O.B. developed a passion for writing Hip Hop lyrics which was inspired not just by his love for the art. It was a combination of his creativity as a poet and an early introduction to the street life as well; the latter being one of the many results of the absence of his father in his life who succumbed to cancer leaving his mother to raise three boys as a single parent.  His father’s vacancy in the home created a pathway for R.O.B. to be exposed to gang culture and drug dealing on Kansas City’s crime ridden East Side ultimately giving him what he calls, “an education no college could offer.”  Asked if his father’s death may have opened a door for a career in music, he stated “It’s possible.  I think if he was alive, I wouldn’t be rhymin’ because I wouldn’t have been in the streets so at the end of the day, it was the street life I was exposed to that gave birth to me as a rap artist.”  
  
  
  Throughout the 1990’s, R.O.B. began to amass widespread local popularity by regularly performing at open mic sessions.  By 2001, he released his first CD, “Introduction of a Street Poet,” on a now defunct independent record label.  After his business partner and other members of their record label became entangled in legal battles, the future of R.O.B.’s music career became uncertain.  It wasn’t until 2006 when he would release his second album “Reflection of Brilliance” which moved several thousand units without the help of retail record stores.
  
  In the following year of 2007, his younger brother was murdered in a shooting prompting him to take a hiatus to get a more clear perspective on life.  In 2008, he came back to begin recording tracks for his latest effort “The R.O.B. Report” which is near completion.  Regardless of the many challenges he’s faced, R.O.B. has remained resilient and has stayed focused through it all.  His latest CD, “The R.O.B. Report”, will be the vehicle that demonstrates the full force of his “reflection of brilliance!”
