自動BGM再生装置であるAISOの話をはじめて聞いたときに、何年も前にアイデアノートに走り書きしていた水のような音楽というアイデアをふと思い出しました。温度や重力、囲うものによって常に形を変え続ける水のような音楽。山間部の湧水、波打ち際の揺らぎ、国境を隔てゆったり流れる河、霧に包まれた荘厳な滝、頬をつたう涙、そっと傘の感触を一つずつ確かめるように打つ降り出しはじめの雨、湯気の立った旅館の温泉風呂、白銀の浮かぶ氷で昼寝するペンギン、底の見えない井戸に小石を放り込んだ時に立ち上がる音、コップ一杯の水...etc、と音楽の間。

Sydney/Melbourne artist and musician Jannah Quill has provided us with an exclusive soundtrack, 'Source of Uncertainty'.

Named after a module from the Buchla 200/200e system from which it was created, 'Source of Uncertainty' is a suspensive composition of synthesiser and complex percussive rhythms. Working from an improvised one-take recording on the Buchla at Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS), the piece fuses the rich analogue sounds with additional percussive and melodic elements from a Roland TR-8, Native Instruments Battery 4, Massive to experimental electric sounds created using a hacked solar panel.

Based in Sydney and Melbourne, Jannah Quill as an artist whose experimental approach to the uncasing of electrical processes manifests in installation, performance and recorded sound. In her live performances she fuses cracked everyday electronics with traditional electronic instruments to phase techno with menacing interjection of static and tone. It is screwed layers of harsh noise channeled through attentive structure, simultaneously brutal and beguiling. Her approach to sound-making is heavily influenced by her interest in dance and club music apparatus and the ways in which this can blend with experimental, improvisatory and collaborative music making.

Along with being an artist in residence at MESS for a 6 week residencey starting from July 11, Quill will be performing at the Howler Melbourne for MESS Presents: Signal to Noise on July 26. You can also catch her for AEGIS #01 at Mesma Studio, VIC in collaboration with Carla Zimbler on July 14. She also has a new release on way through Melbourne based experimental label Sumac.

Kcin is the new project of Australian drummer/producer Nicholas Meredith. His sound-world, although wet through with electronic and digital elements, draws significantly from the natural world: monolithic structures, human biology, water. Working with themes of uncertainty and environmental change.

His music is deeply personal and highly visceral. Moving from moments of stillness to complete sonic destruction. Meredith's history as a jazz drummer and improviser combined with his embrace of the infinite opportunities offered by technology infuse these compositions with a freedom of rhythm and structure that is energising.

In 2015 Nicholas traveled to Berlin, London and Reykjavik to write and record what would be the genesis of this debut release. The pieces were further fleshed out back home in Sydney. The resulting album was mixed by Daniel Rejmer (Ben Frost, Bjork, Tim Hecker) and mastered by Lawrence English (Room 40).
