I use to follow that weird decibel rule up until I was a new engineer in an actual studio. I was wrapping up a mix for a client and another engineer came in and began to kind of hang out while I mixed after the session. And I asked him what he thought of the vocals and first thing he told me was there was something funky going on in the low end and her vocals were nasally, and I told him I made some cuts in the 800-900 area for the nasally tones and around 250 for the low end on her voice but still couldn't get rid of it. So when I pulled up the eq, which had no more than 3 db of cuts on each band, he said yeah just take more out on that low end , so I went another decibel or so and he said more, more, more, okay that sounds good. And then I referenced that change was like, wtf, I cut like 8 dB out and it still sounds good. That little piece of advice helped me clean up so many mixes to date. Gotta be careful what some of these internet gurus tell you! Trust your ears :)

i often clip a analog plug in. because it´s an analoge sym and have enough headroom. u get intressting distortions in the red area^^ same with klanghelm and joe meek. and sometimes i use them in the green area.^^
