When given a rough/demo mix from a client/producer/artist, most of the time it has some "good" elements to it: A certain sound/energy/vibe/volume levels/whatever. Imho its really important to check with that roughmix from time to time during the mixing process to make shure those good aspects get preserved! It happened to me more than once that i made a decent mix that was so far away from what the client/artist imagined.

Please please PLEASE do not delete a whole bunch of tracks to start mixing. Bouncing and join is perfect, it helps consolidate midi and audio and saves space on your CPU but there is no need to delete the original clips, just mute them with ^M. Still saves space on your CPU but you won't lose them forever if you decide to make changes later!
