Unfortunately you are at the age of “in-between” where the rest of the world and your place in it has very different requirements, or expectations, than when you were 0–8 years old. But you still feel like you want to be a kid sometimes and not have to worry about being adult.

It is a difficult time both in and out of school. You and your friends are going to experience a lot of drama as your friends from previous grades are going to find out that different things interest you, than what used to interest you. Your world is becoming bigger, and you are going to be aware of a lot more stuff that is going on in the world around you. Your mom is going to start not understanding a lot of what happens in your life. Be patient with her, talk slowly and explain when you can. You love her (even when she just plain cant get it).

If possible, check with your mom, and see if your family has an adulthood ceremony.

In my family, an aunt or an uncle (or trusted family friend) takes us somewhere and leaves us alone, and we have to find them again (for me it was the woods - for my cousin it was in a shopping mall). Afterwards we celebrated with dinner of my choosing (pizza with pineapple). My mom, dad, and aunts, and Grandma, all gave me a blessing they each wrote (I still have them).

It wasn’t a lot of people involved, but from that point on I knew I was supposed to act like an adult, and do my chores, take responsibility for myself and my actions. Its a heavy burden, and I messed up a lot.
