A mind stretched by new experiences never reverts back to its old dimensions. On Ke-Rij’s first full length album after releasing a series of singles and an EP, he explores how the pursuit of his own goals has irreversibly changed him and separated him from the status quo. With a “mind full of everything” Ke-Rij shares profound introspections and societal observations against a backdrop of thumping kicks, suspended synths and haunting melodies. Aurora plays like a journey to see the Northern Lights, drawing you in with the hypnotic and glassy “Party Favor,” then bouncing between challenges to conventional thinking in tracks like “You Say” and “Card Trick;” Bumping, rhythmic detours like “Faces;” determined motivation like on “Glyphs and Tulips,” and finally concluding with the guiding light that inspired the whole journey in the first place on “Don’t Cry.” To see an aurora in person, one must leave comfort zones and go through new experiences; Aurora is a call to others to come see the lights for themselves.
