Indie maverick Trunky Juno has returned with his new single ‘Death Metal Music’, the first taste of a new project set to unfold over the coming months. The new single follows the release of his 2021 EP 'Good Dog', recent support dates with The Mysterines and a busy summer of festival appearances at Liverpool Sound City, Live At Leeds, Made Me Like It, Neck Of The Woods, Twisterella and more.

Bringing a spritely disposition to the alternative music scene, the Durham native twists the mundane into his own brand of tongue-in-cheek, riff-laden indie-pop. Backed by a diverse and relatable repertoire, the zany universe of Trunky Juno is beginning its glorious expansion with newly released single ‘Death Metal Music’.

Co-produced by Eduardo De La Paz (The Big Moon, Walt Disco, Drug Store Romeos), new single ‘Death Metal Music’ opens with a lilting indie-rock verse musing on the inevitability of ageing, before soaring into its crushing chorus "What are all you kids still doing around? Playing your death metal music / So fucking loud / Don’t you all got homes to go to or somewhere?"

Elaborating on the inspiration behind the new single, Trunky Juno said: "Welcome to the Trunky Goth Phase. Grab some make up, head to the cemetery and snap yourself a new profile pic. For some people it’s 20, for others it might be 50, and for some people it might never happen, but there’s generally an age at which people decide everything just sounds like Death Metal Music to them now. It’s that feeling of, 'I don’t get this, it sucks’. Do I get it? Who knows, but it sure is fun to Goth up and play some noisy guitar music."

Inspired by the 90s slacker rock of Weezer and Beck, as well as the psychedelic tendencies of The Flaming Lips and quirky offerings of Mac DeMarco, Trunky Juno finds no better way to spend his time than spinning idiosyncratic tales of our society and the pop culture that engulfs it, covering every corner of our sonic landscape.

Outside of his attributions to the alternative music scene, Trunky Juno is an avid admirer of all forms of creativity, oft finding beauty in the abstract, be it his deep-rooted love for professional wrestling, 80s horror films or sculpting plasticine expressions onto hard-boiled eggs.

He says, “I always wonder what it would be like to hear music without knowing anything about music, and that’s what I like about other art forms. I like that I know nothing about them and I can just appreciate them in a more abstract way without thinking about the gritty details.”

During the height of the worldwide pandemic, Trunky Juno released his first EP 'Too Many Teeth', followed up by the well-praised release of his 'Good Dog' EP in September 2021. With support from Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1) and Zane Lowe (Apple Music 1), as well as being curated on Spotify playlists like Fresh Finds, Melomania and Garden Indie, Trunky Juno is becoming a force to be reckoned loved by algorithms and people alike.
