I remember when I first saw the video for “I Love It” by Lil Pump and Kanye West. I wanted to dance because the beat was so dope but every-time the chorus came in, I  was like “Why though?”. I had mixed emotions. The song was so catchy!... If only the lyrics would stop replaying on my subconscious like a not-so-subliminal brainwash tape. I’ve heard the arguments about it being a celebration of female sexuality and I can’t help but ask myself... If a guy were to approach me and say “You’re such a fucking ho. I love it! Let’s have dinner sometime”, would I take this as a compliment? 

That’s a tough one, I know. But after about a nanosecond of deliberation, my final answer is no. I personally don’t know any women who would answer yes either, but hey! Different strokes for different folks! That being said...for us folks (women) who hope they never have to respond to that pick up line...for us folks (women) who don’t need another machismo sing-along to feel sexually liberated...and finally for us folks (humans) who want to bop to something that won’t make us go “why though?!”, here’s my remix. A Trinidadian-born artist with rhythm in her blood, Keba burst onto the scene after completing a degree in Chemistry, when she decided to pursue her passion for music and songwriting instead. In 2013, she debuted Wildfire, her first studio album, which she composed in collaboration with producer Erik Nunez and released under their independent label, Labrat Music. Since then, the singer/songwriter has earned recognition for her original songs from both the USA Songwriting Competition and the International Songwriting Competition.  

Keba Williams' musical talent is reminiscent of classic artists like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan, featuring a modern blend of R&B, Soul and Funk. Noted for delivering powerful vocals and an electrifying stage presence, she is making her mark in today's music industry with live shows that never fail to move an audience to their feet. Keba regularly headlines venues in South Florida with her band and recently made her international stage debut as an opening act for Jill Scott and Kool & the Gang at the Tobago Jazz Experience.
