TERANGA BEAT proudly presents YISHAK BANJAW on his first international release. YISHAK BANJAW is a composer and keyboard player from Addis Ababa known to his country for his innovative compositions and unique sound. His ability to transform traditional Ethiopian songs into spacey Minimal-Wave gems creates an ultra hypnotic and psychedelic atmosphere, a sound that you have never experienced before.  

Love Songs Vol.2 was recorded in 1986 at Yishak’s house, while he was working for the Police Band in Eritrea. It was released by an Eritrean label on cassette and was also distributed in Ethiopia. However, due to the shaky political situation, Yishak was forbidden to travel anywhere outside his country, including Ethiopia. Consequently Love Songs Vol.2 remained a very obscure and neglected musical experiment. Until now Yishak has released 7 albums on cassette but, unlike many Ethiopian musicians, has never managed to reach a wider and international audience. 
 
On this album Yishak Banjaw chose to play everything on a small Casio PT, “a keyboard for kids” as he proudly mentions. He recorded the whole album live, directly to his tape recorder. Although his main instrument was a Godwin keyboard, he actually preferred to rent the Casio from a friend, as he was blown away by the way it sounded. This choice alone reveals a genuine talent that dared to beyond what his colleagues were doing at that time.

The LP version of the album is a Deluxe Edition and comes with a gatefold cover, a printed insert and an MP3 download code. The CD version includes a booklet with photos and liner notes outlining the story of this unique musician who carried the long tradition of Ethiopia into another level.

Welcome to the first chapter of the OZFERTI saga. Step into an unknown galaxy, where gravity is multi-dimensional and they don’t have Netflix ; where new gods are replacing the old idols and the
ecosystems are being crushed by space-mining economy. Follow OZFERTI, the masked beatmaker, in his journey to the stars, in an album inspired by East-African music and partly produced and recorded in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. The 11 track album takes you through desertic landscapes and sci-fi atmospheres, with traditionnal rythm patterns and percussions being mixed with electronic synthesisers and live electric guitar.

Florian Doucet is a music veteran. Before dedicating to Ozferti entirely, he toured around the globe and in the studio with Afro-Colombian band LA CHIVA GANTIVA (Crammed Discs) and Afro-Portuguese band TERRAKOTA (Fazuma). He had a call for modern Ethiopian music, and in 2016 released the ADDIS ABOUMBAP EP, 11 tracksof EthioJazz and electronic landscapes. The record received critical acclaim and was widely broadcasted by underground DJ’s and Radios (DJ Mellow / LOW UP, BEAT CHRONIC, Radio Nova Paris) but also on big stations (KCRW Los Angeles, Worldwide FM, RINSE fm France). This was the beginning of the Ozferti project, an adventure wich would encapsulate Flo’s musical and visual arts skills. The music contains elements of Electronica, Jazz, Hip-hop and Bass music, while using the color and richness of East-African instruments and rythms. It is a space odyssey, depicting the story of a purple planet and a masked musician, a strange place that makes us reflect on our own world.
