As we approach the end of the year, you’d be forgiven for thinking we should be slowing down at Elevate HQ, but it feels like things are only ramping up – especially when Friction rolls through with a new tune! We couldn’t say no… Introducing the head honcho’s latest track “Set Me Free”, which is a certified club banger to say the least.

If you’ve been following Friction’s recent releases then you’ll know full well how geared to the dancefloor his productions have become – whether it was “I Need To Feel” with Poppy Baskcomb or his and Jonny L’s long-awaited “Back to Your Roots 2021 refix. During a time when many of us our revelling in the freedom of raving again, “Set Me Free” is undoubtedly a tune people will be letting go of all their pent up frustration to on the dancefloor real soon!

Celebrating two decades in business, Technique Recordings have opened up the vaults and handed out the stems of some of their biggest tunes to some of the sickest producers around. We had warnings of what was to come with DC Breaks' remix of Tantrum Desire's 'Airhead' and Glitch City's take on Drumsound & Bassline Smith's 'Skumbag', and cuts from this album have been shelling down raves and festivals all summer.

Now, here's what we've been waiting for.

This album, spanning the full twenty years of Technique history, showcases the real strength and depth of the catalogue. Anthems like Crissy Criss & Youngman's 'Kick Snare', Drumsound & Bassline Smith's 'Crossfire' and Tantrum Desire's 'Reach' all get reconfigured to take heads off all over again. The bossmen have even resurrected their Future Tech moniker to give a 2019 upgrade to TECH 001.

And the array of remixers recruited take us all the way across the spectrum of contemporary drum 'n' bass. The likes of Bladerunner and Marky rub shoulders with AMC and The Prototypes...this album is as musically multi-faceted as it is star-studded. Just take a look down the tracklist to see how much there is to discover, taking in dancefloor, jungle, jump-up and more.

In summary, this is how to celebrate a birthday in style. Some of the biggest tracks from the back catalogue given the remix treatment by some of the biggest artists in the scene. The fires of the NEUROPUNK FORGE alight once more with the arrival of the WARHEAD EP, the latest release from rising Russian duo DESPERSION on NEUROPUNK RECORDS. Established in 2017, the duo have seen previous releases on a variety of labels including Ignescent, 0101 and Kill Tomorrow, within which they have displayed their development of a style that blends complex melodic motifs with aggressive percussive and bassline sequences for a synthesis formed of these two often disparate sounds. Now making their NEUROPUNK RECORDS debut, DESPERSION deliver four tracks in this signature style to create the latest set of auditory weapons straight from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

Opened by the minor chords and arpeggios of the title track of the same name, the WARHEAD EP quickly erupts with low end weight leavened by the interspersion of melodic reprisals of its opening theme. The deceptively named PEACE which follows provides a slice of scathing neurofunk marked by the tonalities of the distorted hornlike synth that blasts above its rapidly moving bassline. OFFENSIVE next delivers an explosive barrage of transient percussive impacts that fall with perfectly planned precision amongst the tracks chaotic upper atmosphere. Closing the EP is I NEED YOU NOW, which departs from the hard charging energy of its predecessors to deliver a flowing vocal cut emblematic of DESPERSION’s melodic abilities.

With the WARHEAD EP, DESPERSION deliver a dynamic debut on NEUROPUNK RECORDS, showing a deft ability to craft beautiful melodic sequences and works of utmost sonic aggression in equal measure, marking themselves as a duo to watch as they emerge from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

Für die die es interessiert, warum so wenig von mir kam:
Während Corona hatte ich viel Stress mit der Schule und leider ist mein letztes Schuljahr auch nicht zu Ende (Herbstprüfung). Viel zu viel Stress und ein Abfall an Kreativität, weil man nicht mehr fortgehen konnte, haben mich daran gehindert gute Scheiben für euch aufzulegen.

Aber keine Sorge, ich kann euch versichern, dass ich nicht aufgehört habe und noch viele kranke Mixes für euch habe. Ich arbeite schon an weiteren Sachen wie ein 1h mix und weitere Powermixes.
