Keep It Cryptic Takeover in 3B Records Liverpool

Our twelfth guest mix comes from a journalist-turned-DJ who has spent the best part of a decade reporting on the weird and darker side of life. We welcome Limited Edition, having extensive music industry experience promoting events with the legendary @trojansoundsystem, DJ Fast, Edinburgh-based funk band @jamesbrownisannie (produced by Average White Band’s Hamish Stuart and the late Molly Duncan), and Bristol’s mighty @theallergies - and a recently converted Dudeist, ordained after interviewing a fellow dude who created The Big Lebowski religion. His work has been published around the world and he has won two awards for outstanding journalism. He also founded his own PR and events company, Fresh, and works with Fun Lovin' Criminals members @brianfastleiser, @unclefrankmusic and @radioriddler, whose album 'Purple Reggae' is a rework of Prince’s classic album Purple Rain. 

Now with two Liverpool residencies secured, Fresh himself wrote: “The music coming from France and Europe at the moment is incredible. This mix features new jams from the New Wave of producers and labels @frappe, @chevry.agency, thechaudrecords, @ht_france, a long with tracks from @davidduriez_briquerouge label and Robsoul, @demuir, @parirsiansoul, Liverpool’s @dharmacollective and a classic from @arthurbaker, among other grooves. Special thanks to the gifted @guevarism, @pooky, Fast and Frank @benbini from Fun Lovin’ Criminals/Radio Riddler and the @the_secret_dj for being hilariously honest. Enjoy with a White Russian."

CRYPTIC GUEST MIX 012: LIMITED EDITION

Here's our first label release from back in January, presented as a continuous DJ mix, tracklist below.

CRYP001 is a sonic reflection of where we’ve come from: our humble beginnings as a private party in 2018. The compilation captures the ethos and broad range of styles that would feature at our nights before the pandemic hit. All these tunes were produced between 2018 and 2020 and would be played at many of the early parties, so this album is all pre-pandemic productions made mainly during our time in college - making it essentially a Cryptic classics compilation.

This digital release features dancefloor remixes of our longtime resident bands such as Samurai Kip and Harks (formerly Sallow Pillow), alongside acidic bleeps and breakbeat workouts from resident DJ/producers Hendri, Matica, Sound Of Drowning, Polyol, Drumwarp, Lion Yute, Beat Detective, and Guevarism.

Keep It Cryptic Vol.1 // CRYP001 (mixed)

Coming through complete journey of a mix start-to-finish, introducing our new Cryptic resident and Melodic Distraction family member that is the unstoppable Alien Izz, stepping up with with a very suitable offering for Keep It Cryptic. This mix is as energetic as it is eclectic, inspired by the psychedelic realm of UK breaks, electro, 140, and jungle - and is titled ‘Sistema Huautla’ after the cave system in the Sierra Mazateca mountains of the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, the largest cave system in the Western hemisphere.

Alien Izz will be joining us on 28th May in Meraki for the closing set for Box2Box, which we've been booked for a b2b representing Keep It Cryptic following Nite Fleit.

BANGKOK COMMUNITY RADIO: Mr Cryptic's Mystic Trip Digs (mix by ché wax)

Warbo delivers a potent slice of junglist sensibility, coming in hot with an Amen-injected flip of French-band Air's classic groove 'La Femme D'argent' - layering breakbeats and acid basslines over the top, reminiscent of early 4hero / Tom & Jerry, Roni Size & Reprazent, and Goldie - but with it's own unique nuances, and ticking all the boxes for the Cryptic label sound.

Very proud to finally release this one, and looking forward to hearing more of Warbo's productions in 2024 - who is a very talented and eclectic multi-intrumentalist from our hometown of Liverpool.

CRYPTIC GUEST MIX 010: JAY CARDER (4TTFL)

Focusing on the left-field, psychedelic and experimental selections in dance music, Cryptical Listening is a tour through current underground music. Hosted by the Keep It Cryptic warehouse party’s primary hosts – Ché Wilson, Josh Ray and Cosmic Shepherd – the show gives new original music a platform to be played alongside older selections.

20-year-old local musician and producer Ché is part of various projects outside of DJing and Keep It Cryptic; including live band Rubber Dub and production collectives with Josh Ray including aliases such as Soulsmoke, The Cryptide, Fire House Rockers and Xjukebox. Josh helps run the label Super Weird Substance and Liverpool Arts Lab, as well as DJing from Liverpool to Utrecht for a number of years. Cosmic Shepherd (Ollie Cash) has made a name for himself on the Liverpool psychedelic/punk circuit, and has a newly set-up bootleg label ‘False Calcium’, bringing all sorts of new homegrown electronic weirdness to your ears free of charge.

With their rapidly growing party ‘Keep It Cryptic’ taking off, which brings a mini festival feel to secret warehouse locations outside of the city centre, the Cryptical crew have caught the imagination of a fresh and youthful art scene in Liverpool. Now with a bootleg label set to release a number of originals this year, you can expect to hear lots of unreleased material played on this show – with styles ranging from breaks and electro to dub and jungle, disco and house to jazz and punk.
