The story of the Powhatan mine fire where 66 men were killed on July 5, 1944. The mine was sealed July 6.  My grandpa, Elmer Keesey and his brother, Donald Keesey were drill men for Hanna Coal Company at the time and spent 3 sleepless days and nights trying to reach the trapped miners to no avail.
