This is an old recording from my time as student. I’ve used at least two of the main themes in this piece in other places as sometimes it takes a little while for music to ‘land’ and find a proper home.  Composed and conducted by Keir C. Crawley and recorded in Studio One of the Vestry Hall Studios, Ealing, London. 

The Candle and the Star

The invite was (is) to compose music to accompany an independent production about the last of mankind in space with a 1980's 'radiophonic' feel. So these are the final voyages of the HMS Resurgence transporting the last of humanity out into deep space. Three versions of the main title - the 'TNG' version, the John Barry version and the atmosphere/Paddy Kingsland version. Performed by the composer and recording with thanks to Chris Williams.

Keir Crawley is now a full time educator and increasingly a some time composer (who studied with Andrew Lovett, Daryl Runswick and Glen Morgan at Trinity College of Music) who occasionally wishes it was the other way around! 

Keir Crawley’s music has been performed at The South Bank Centre (The Purcell Room and Queen Elizabeth Hall), St John’s Smith’s Square, Maida Vale Studios, St. Martins in the Fields, The Cochrane Theatre, The Royal Academy of Dance, The Central School of Ballet, Trinity College of Music, The Royal College of Music, The Royal Academy of Music and The London College of Music. As an arranger and orchestrator Keir has worked for the BBC, Channel 4, EMI, Sony, Teach Through Music, Music Excellence London, Old School Assembly, Shades of Blue , English National Opera and the LW Group.

During the 1990s Keir won the Chappell Prize for Composition (twice!) and in 2015 was awarded a Mayor of London's Music Excellence in Schools award for his now 25-year-old community music school. In 2015 Keir was also short listed for a Sussex based international composers festival. More recently in 2024 and 2025 Keir’s music was once again short listed (down to the final 15 from over 2,000 entries) for a composers festival based in New York.
