I chose Plateau Paws and Lownote as my 2 loops and linked them and overlapped them to create a negative time signature. (dont quite know what that means but it sounded great when I wrote it)
forced them through many different effects (delays, tremolo, panning, flangers, pitchshifters, phasers and the rest) then added a snippet from some random guy's life story,( I hope Julie is better now), and here it is.

This week’s Disquiet Junto project builds on last week’s. Last week, 67 different musicians uploaded as many locked grooves. This week we’ll make new music atop the locked grooves.
Step 1: Choose two locked grooves from the set at http://goo.gl/0s4WmM. You can accomplish this in several ways. You can choose random numbers between 1 and 67 and use those tracks, or you can just select the tracks you most want to work with. Note that most of the tracks should be set to allow, via Creative Commons, for non-commercial re-use. However, if you aren’t sure, please contact the musician to confirm.

Step 2: Make a new track alternating the two locked grooves for between one and two minutes.

Step 3: Use the track that resulted from step 2 as the foundation for a new piece of music. Transform it as you desire, which might include altering the foundational track and adding new material atop it.

Step 4: Upload the finished track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 5: Listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

Length: Your finished work should be between roughly 1 and 2 minutes long.


Electro Shock Therapy (disquiet0154 - Grooveunlocked)

I recorded this track a little while ago and have since had my father in law Don Reid from legendary Australian jazz fusion outfit "Crossfire" add improvised sax, flute and clarinet. Now it is something special I think.   I hope you listen to the whole thing, although it's still a demo it's a real journey.

i took the original sample and copied it 8 times as different layers which I then placed into garageband, with each layer being placed slightly to the left of the previous one. this created a complexity in the different spacing of notes and sounds.
I then deleted the beginning 20 secs of the second track (and deleted an extra 20 secs from each of the following tracks so that they all came in slowly to add complexity over an expanded period. i then added 1 effect to each of the layers
layer 1 no effects
layer 2 pitch shift down 
layer 3 slow panning tremolo
layer 4 vocal transformer (pitch down and fierce degradation)
layer 5 pitch shift down
layer 6 vocal trans. (pitch -15 slight degradation)
layer 7 delay (fast sweep)
layer 8 pitch shift down (-12) + 6 second reverb.

Disquiet Junto Project 0189: Tone Layer
Create a dense stack of attack-free tonal material from one audio source.

I used a tone wheel organ synth to go along with the tone layer theme (just in good ol' Garageband) and set it at 20bpm with a 1 minute ish loop setting, stacked on some modulation, just because the number 7 is great, hit record and played the note D.

 D is also great.

As the 1 minute loop progressed I slowly pulled out the virtual drawbars at random slowly altering the colour of the note, at 1 min it recorded over itself continuing to move drawbars as I moved others> I recorded 3 mins over the top of itself, then recorded two more, 3minute in 1 minute loops in different octaves of D (because D is great)
I think I may have broken my brain 

I chose the name because I spotted this sign leaving the hospital this morning and well some things you just have to steal.

Falling Fruit May Cause Injury (disquiet0189-tonelayer)

this weeks project provided a massive dilemna for me, there were so many amazing sounds and astounding tales last week that I had really hard time trying to choose.

I ended up with the first 20 seconds of 337is'  "National Tennis Centre, Melbourne, Australia, 1989"  and the whole of (I'm sorry I know I was supposed to use only part of) Hideyuki Kuromiya's
"Incidental G"  both beautiful in their own right, looped them, and added the last ingredient (as prescribed by my physician or doctorb Marc) to glue them together, a couple of samples from the movie Serpico (it's a slow burn but well worth the watch). Thanks  to 337is and Hideyuki for you lovely sounds and sorry to all the other people I didn't use, whose sounds were equally as lovely.

I did nothing to any of the tracks except for a little delay on the very last Serpico sample and a fade out on 337is part.

Real Good Shit (disquiet0190-missedconnections)

we begin (with an old disquiet of mine called failed aeolian/disquiet143 tuning the hood, I always though it sounded a little bit like a chinese insect) as a goatherd sits under a tree, overlooking the village flock plucking a stringed instrument to pass the time and slowly meld into the second part (originally called jello mello and the voices through the floor it ended up being a cover of a duran duran song but I have removed the vocals) I actually wrote this part a while ago but thought that it fit the parameters of artistic pursuit and communal living in that as I wrote it I could hear the people downstairs arguing the whole time. part three was written specifically for this piece. it symbolises the onset of mass industry and the building of something piece by piece, thread by thread, loop by loop the rhythmic repetition of mass production. the crazy computer noise over the top resembles the fact that if you have that many machines going at once something is bound to go wrong, at some point. 

Disquiet Junto Project 195: Chinasystem Soundsystem
Make music for a Caochangdi Village National Day party.



Step 1: You are creating music for a long party and a big sound system. Keep this in mind. If possible, make a track that lasts about 10 to 15 minutes long.

Step 2: Create a track that moves through three stages:

The first stage should be brief and invoke sounds related to agriculture.

The second stage, the longest of the three stages, should invoke sounds related to artistic production and communal living. Slowly transition from the first stage to the second stage.

The third stage should begin abruptly and invoke rapid industrialization.

Step 3: Upload your completed track to the Disquiet Junto group on SoundCloud.

Step 4: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants.

Deadline: This assignment was made in the early evening, New York City time, on Thursday, September 24, 2015, with a deadline of 11:59pm wherever you are on Monday, September 28, 2015.

Shire Promotional Grotesques(disquiet0195-chinasoundsystem)

I played the notes through a synth thingie on logic pro called marbles in a bowl, copied and pasted into another couple of synths and then into a drum track with a load of tape delay.
 all this while listening to very loud country music from a 3 day country music festival taking place at the end of my street from which my wife and 5 year old daughter just returned, carrying a delicious kransky  on a roll with kraut and heaps of mustard. i ate the whole thing.
it runs a little long at 2.37minutes because of the delay on the drum track, switch it off when you get bored, I did.

Flying Missiles, Atomic Bombs And The Second Coming (empty Rooms 0005)

wow this was fun for me.

I randomly chose number 7, well I would always choose 7 because, as I believe i may have mentioned at some other point, 7 is cool.
I was not disappointed. its about a rat.
did I mention, rats are also cool.
except when they eat all the damned cherries.

I haven't as yet listened to the other 6 parts.

I took the sample and clipped off the opening breath reversed it, copied and pasted it, fed it through far too many different plug ins then deleted it and started again. 
this is the result

 being a short piece i listened to it many times over about a 2 hour  period after a busy might at work, to the point that I couldn't really tell what it tasted like anymore, and being 2am there was no one to have a slurp and tell me if it needed any salt. I think it works really well if you play it on repeat for 2 hours and listen through headphones whilst trying to stay awake.

Louis The Ratfish King(disquiet 0200 -kadreyscore7)

I chose the Montano album, partly because they are from New Zealand but mainly because I really liked their stuff.

I took the beginning 8 or so seconds of each track looped them and slowly layered them over  each other at different volumes according to the amount that they actually mixed in with the surrounding sounds.

I recorded the process (played through Logic Pro X) through a free Audio capture application called Audio Hijack.

Just A Moment(disquiet0201-realfuture)

I made this in a short space of time for Duke Albada who wanted some sound for a video installation entitled "You Are Here" a macroscopic video journal of a 5000 km road trip, revolving around connection to Country. (and about how WE tend to fuck things up)

The brief was, well, brief, as long as I didn't scare anyone.

I had seen very little of the footage (in fact I still have no idea as to what will be actually shown), I guess I will find out at the opening.

if anyone wants to come it's at Ballina/Byron airport, NSW, Australia about 6.30 pm on Thursday 14 Jan.  There will be free wine.

keithysdunimselfamischief's last hurrah, a poorly constructed cover of Duran Duran's "Planet Earth". 
It didn't start out that way but after listening to it I could just hear the words "there's no sign of life" in the background.
I guess the name gvies away something about it's age as I have held onto this for a while, hoping to fix it up in all the places it needs it but as Keithysdunimselfamischief is "disbanding" so to speak it seemed like a good time to release it, just in time for next Christmas.
It has previously been released (sans vox) as part 2 of "Shire Promotional Grotesques"
thank you to Nettles who gave me very honest and learned advice when I asked for it, which I stupidly ignored and forgot. 
I wish I had done what you said to the vocals, whatever it was, I probably didn't understand at the time anyway.
