The debut release from new London label Lost Records sees Darius Syrossian in full swing with the superb ‘Anything Weird’ EP backed with a standout remix from label bosses Leftwing & Kody…

Darius Syrossian has become a leading light in House music’s current generation since bursting
on to the scene almost 10 years ago. Building a reputation for quality productions and
performances that has seen him in perpetual demand, he has releases for labels such as Viva,
OFF Recordings and Area Remote. Now the Leeds based DJ/Producer teams up with a brand
new imprint brought to us by the hotly tipped production duo Leftwing & Kody.

The ‘Anything Weird EP’ kicks off with the original version of ‘I’ll Do Anything’, a beautifully
produced slice of tough House music with a subterranean bouncy bassline, classic techno
cymbals and snares and an infectious old school vocal line, quality stuff. The original version is
followed with a remix from label bosses Leftwing & Kody who put their own audibly arousing
twist on Syrossian's track - adding in some irresistible fluttering claps and chopping up the
vocals to add a different intensity to the whole vibe. Faster and with a unique fierceness, it's a
remix that remains on par with the original.

The final track of the EP shows the breadth and true talent of Syrossian; 'I'm Not Weird Your
Just Normal' has a deep growling bass and truly contagious chord harmony, adding a little
element of humour and wonky fairground vibes to the track.
This is a killer debut from the Lost Records label and another winner from the ever-reliable
Darius Syrossian.

Lost Records have drafted in Hector Couto to helm the label’s sophomore release. Straight off the bat Hector kicks off the EP with the title track “I Believe”, a hypnotic and infectious number armed to the teeth with precise hi-hats and brooding basslines. “I Believe” cements Hector Couto’s production to an ever evolving sound while setting the stage perfectly for the follow up track “Knight Riders”.
Built on similar foundations to “I Believe”, “Knight Riders” introduces a rich soundscape, playingdeep and shadowy attributes against a field of succinct vocals and lead synth lines. Closing the EP we have remix heavyweights Waifs & Strays, 2013 being a blistering year for the production duo so far, seeing them feature on a plethora of releases. The remix ticks the boxes on what is becoming a key set of signature attributes that make up the duo’s sound, welding key features of the original and pinning them into a heavier groove whilst playing off atmospheric build ups and break downs.

Over the past couple of years, Kellerkind’s unique interpretation of house music has truly catapulted him out of the figurative basement and into the limelight. Whether it was the disco-infused cool of ‘Backflash’ or the tribal rhythms found on his debut-album ‘Basement Story’, through hard work, rather than by miracle, Marco Biagini matured into a producer who is at the top of his game. With ‘Music is a Miracle’ Kellerkind now delivers a sophomore album that offers itself as a diverse and surprising love letter to music, carrying his distinct handwriting. This 12“ compiles two of the album’s highligts alongside three highcalibre remixes.

’I Know’ is trademark Kellerkind, as he treats us to filtered disco breaks, colourful chords and a smooth vocal hook, while ’Music is a Miracle’ presents a different style. Here, an extremely funky garage bass-line, Chicago strings and urgent trumpets surprise us as they drop after a Moodyman-esque monologue. Mantra-alert!

The B-side is then dedicated to the remixes of ’I Know’. While the British heavyweights Leftwing & Kody bring the heat thanks to energetic dub chords and an urgent acid bass-line on their tasteful interpretation, Oliver Koletzki surprises with a rave-tastic old-school UK hardcore mix. Lastly, Murat Kilic focuses on jacking percussion and a rolling bass-line on his grooving version.

This contemporary interpretation is a heartfelt tribute to "Shadows Of Paradise" - a short-lived Trance project by Claudine Sarlet and Guiseppe Antiono Varone that only released one single (also named "Shadows Of Paradise") in 1999.
It's one of my absolutely favourite Trance productions from that time and happens to be a rare, non-digital, used-vinyl-only item nowadays.

Herbert: Monaberry's totem old timer, Super Flu's dear old Opa, house music's favourite septuagenarian and all round legend returns…

It's been a while since he last curated a Monaberry collection (his hearing aid kaput throughout 2015)The last time being summer 2014 with Monaberry's now-vintage '25 Years Monaberry' collection. But now he's dusted off his curating cap, gently leant his walking stick against the wall, shouted "what?" a lot of times, moaned about his clicky knees, yearned for the good old days and, finally, put together one of the Halle-based label's most beautiful collections to date.

Fresh out of the care home, Herb's first pick – Super Flu & Viktor Talking Machine's 'Plastik' – leads with the gusto of a man a third of his age: a twinkling arpeggio gazes up to clear night skies building in momentum with the beats and a pulsating bassline. Laced with a dramatic breakdown, you'd be advised to stash this one for the next festival marathon.

The melodic tech textures continue as Herb welcomes Boston's Robot Love to the Monaberry fold with the touching slice of anthemia that is 'Numbers Station'. A clipped hook gently persists with chiselled insistency. Timeless and driving, Herb tells us he picked it because it's great to walk around the supermarket really really slowly to. We love it because it will take your dancefloor to a whole new level.

Last spotted on '25 Years Monaberry', fellow Halle hero Martin Waslewski returns with a wistful piano-primed stroller that sees Herb striding gently but confidently towards a destination unknown (probably the chemist to get his meds). No walking stick required.

Monaberry mainstays Hanne & Lore take old Herb (or Herbie to those in the know) out to the choppy tech seas late at night, sharpen up their finest synth hook and reel in a big one. Like all fresh produce, 'Tuna In' is crisp to the taste and will satiate the hungriest of dancefloors.

Having previously remixed Super Flu, Dortmunder Philhamoniker and Philipp Armbruster's 'Volkwein', Bebetta returns to Monaberry with her label debut; an ageless groove powered by soft chord changes, mild jazz textures and faraway crackles, it's Herbert's favourite for fireside chats.

Finally, Parra For Cuva brings us to a touching finale. Just in time for Herb's afternoon nap, 'Borneo' is awash with dreamy lilts, lingering instrumentation and positive chords. All brought together by shimmering guitar strums and cosmic ripples, listen closely and you can hear Herb smokebelching in sync with the splashing cymbals.

Respect your elders, respect the grooves, respect one another: 2016 is about to commence and Herbie's picked the winning soundtrack to break it in.
