He felt indignant and secretly cursed Muhammad Iffat, despite his love for the man. How good it was to lie down when exhausted. Yes, his head pulsed and throbbed, but he almost always had some kind of headache. Let him praise God in any case. Being totally at ease was a thing of the past. MI.LA fell asleep in Moscow and awoke days later in Mandala. This is her first offering for Shango Records. When the army of the founder of the Eighteenth Dynasty expelled the Hyksos rulers from Egypt, the victor's city of origin, Thebes, became the most important city in Egypt, the capital of a new dynasty. The local patron deity of Thebes, Amun, therefore became nationally important. The pharaohs of that new dynasty attributed all of their successes to Amun, and they lavished much of their wealth and captured spoil on the construction of temples dedicated to Amun. The victory against the "foreign rulers" achieved by pharaohs who worshipped Amun caused him to be seen as a champion of the less fortunate, upholding the rights of justice for the poor. By aiding those who traveled in his name, he became the Protector of the road. Since he upheld Ma'at (truth, justice, and goodness), those who prayed to Amun were required first to demonstrate that they were worthy, by confessing their sins.

Epirus or Epeiros in Greek mythology, was a member of the Theban royal family as the daughter of princess Agave and Echion, one of the Spartoi. She was the sister of Pentheus, successor of King Cadmus of Thebes. Epirus accompanied Cadmus and Harmonia while they were carrying the body of Pentheus. While in Epirus, she died and was buried in a thicket; this thicket was later considered sacred to her and the entire country was renamed after her. This same thicket was also considered the place where the king's son Cichyrus accidentally slew a young girl named Anthippe while hunting. In remorse he flung himself into a ravine and was killed. The king's people, the Chaonians, founded the city of Cichyrus around the ravine. Kellie Sakkaku are watching the Moon and paying their respects to Epirus. This is their fourth offering for Shango Records. These three tracks can teach you the mysteries of Pentheus and give you the beauty of Agave.

This is what happened. On the night that the worst heat wave in Polynesia history finally broke-that night of July 19-entire Bora-Bora was lashed with the most vicious thunderstorm I have ever seen. We lived on Pound Low, and we saw the first of the storms beating its way across the water toward us just before dark. For an hour before, the air had been utterly still. The heat was like a solid thing, and it seemed as deep as a sullen quarry-water. That afternoon we had gone swimming, but the water was no relief unless you went out deep. We came back to the house and we sat without talking much, smoking and looking across the sullen flat mirror of the sea, a few powerboats droned back and forth. The thunderheads were getting closer, pushing away the blue. There was no doubt now that a storm was coming. The clouds twisted and rolled, now black, now purple, now veined, now black again. And the storm came over……..That was when it started getting dark….but no, that’s not exactly right. My thought at the time was not that it was getting dark but that the lights in the market has gone out. I looked up at the fluorescents in a quick reflex action, and I wasn’t alone. And at first, until I remembered the power failure, it seemed that was it, that was what had changed the quality of the light, then I remembered they had been out all the time we had been in the market and things hadn’t seemed dark before. Then I knew, even before the people at the window started to yell and point.
The mist was coming. It came with lazy speed. It was white and bright but non-reflecting. It was coming fast, and it had blotted out most of the sun.

Bolingo was an ancient king of Calabar. He was a peaceful man, and did not like war. He had a wonderful drum, the property of which, when it was beaten, was always to provide plenty of good food and drink. So whenever any country declared war against him, he used to call all his enemies together and beat his drum; then to the surprise of every one, instead of fighting the people found tables spread with all sorts of dishes, fish, foo-foo, palm-oil chop, soup, cooked yams and ocros, and plenty of palm wine for everybody. In this way he kept all the country quiet and sent his enemies away with full stomachs, and in a happy and contented frame of mind. There was only one drawback to possessing the drum, and that was, if the owner of the drum walked over any stick on the road or stept over a fallen tree, all the food would immediately go bad, and three hundred Egbo men would appear with sticks and whips and beat the owner of the drum and all the invited guests very severely. This is his true love story, with drums, beats, vocals and a pure clean soul by DEELA and EKU ZAZA!

Being a musical vagabond involves quite some illustrious stories and quite some adventures. Far off in the brush of the West Africa there lives a tribe of people that have stirred up a lot of interest in their mythology. The Dogon, from Mali, have some interesting beliefs, elaborate rituals and myths. They believe that they are descended from ancient Egyptians and their story goes back further than 50,000 years. Their stories contain actual facts about the solar system and ancient history. The Dogon tribe believes that the starting point of creation is a star that revolves around Sirius and is known as the 'Digitaria star'. Their understanding is that this star is small, but heavy, and contains the building elements of creation. So, here are some building elements of their music creation. This is our new compilation and is called THE DOGON ORCHESTRA, full of positive vibes and awesome music. This is our world and you're welcome to it.......

River Aoos is the largest river in the geographical region of Epirus, North-West Greece. The river originates from Mavrovouni mountain (part of the Northern Pindos mountain chain in Greece). It flows in North West direction through Albania and discharges into the Adriatic Sea. In Greek mythology Aous is an epithet or name of Adonis-the mortal lover of the goddess Aphrodite who was conceived after Aphrodite cursed his mother Smyrna to lust after her own father, King Cinyras of Cyprus. She had sex with her father in complete darkness for nine nights, but he discovered her identity and chased her with a sword. The gods transformed her into a myrrh tree and, in the form of a tree, she gave birth to Adonis but Aphrodite found the infant and gave him to be raised by Persephone, the queen of the underworld. He grew into an astonishingly handsome young man, causing Aphrodite and Persephone to feud over him, with Zeus eventually decreeing that Adonis would spend one third of the year in the underworld with Persephone, one third of the year with Aphrodite and the final third of the year with whoever he chose. He chose Aphrodite. For over a year he had been beating his way along the south shore of Lake Superior as a clam digger and a salmon fisher or in any other capacity that brought him food and bed. His brown, hardening body lived naturally through the half fierce, half lazy work of the bracing days. He knew women early and since they spoiled him he became contemptuous of them, of young virgins because they were ignorant, of the others because they were hysterical about things which in his overwhelming self-absorption he took for granted. But his heart was in a constant, turbulent riot. The most grotesque and fantastic conceits haunted him in his bed at night. A universe of ineffable gaudiness spun itself out in his brain while the clock ticked on the wash-stand and the moon soaked with wet light his tangled clothes upon the floor. Each night he added to the pattern of his fancies until drowsiness closed down upon some vivid scene with an oblivious embrace. For a while these reveries provided an outlet for his imagination; they were a satisfactory hint of the unreality of reality, a promise that the rock of the world was founded securely on a fairy’s wing.

The Bamileke are a Grassfields people. They are the largest ethnic group in Cameroon and inhabit the country's West and Northwest Regions. The Bamileke are regrouped under several groups, each under the guidance of a chief or fon. They speak a number of related languages from the Eastern Grassfield branch of the GrassField language family. These languages are closely related, however, and some classifications identify a Bamileke dialect continuum with seventeen or more dialects. The Bamileke people are known for their very striking and often intricately beaded masquerades, including the impressive elephant mask. Masquerades are an integral part of Bamileke culture and expression. They are donned at special events such as funerals, important palace festivals and other royal ceremonies. The masks are performed by men and aim to support and enforce royal authority. The power of a Bamileke king, called a Fon, is often represented by the elephant, buffalo and leopard. Oral traditions proclaim that the Fon may transform into either an elephant or leopard whenever he chooses. An elephant mask, called a mbap mtengis a mask with protruding circular ears, a human like face, decorative panels on the front and back that hang down to the knee and are covered overall in beautiful geometric beadwork including much triangular imagery. Isosceles triangles are prevalent as they are the known symbol of the leopard. Beadwork, shells, bronze and other precious embellishments on masks elevate the mask's status. On occasion, a Fon may permit members of the community to perform an elephant mask along with a leopard skin, indicating a statement of wealth, status and power being associated with this masquerade.
