Gone Baby Records returns with a new release from South Texan duo Nudo who, in just under 30 minutes, aim to evoke a kind of reverence for the ghostly grandeur of rural and agricultural hubs along the Texan border. The release was recorded across South and Central Texas over the better part of a year. On ‘Acequia’, the nearly 5 minute sprawling sound collage echoes isolation, soundtracking a desolate area which drifts in and out of company. Driven by a subdued piano melody, ‘Acequia’ feels almost haunted by the business of vocal samples and moody synths that scatter in and out of hearing.

BREAK WELL 004 | Jamira Estrada

After a small hiatus at Break Well, we’re back with the fourth transmission and we couldn’t be more pleased to host long-time friend, collaborator and all-around cutie Jamira Estrada. Jamira is a Swiss-Mexican DJ and traditionally trained composer that has cultivated a trademark sound that reflects her passion for playful confrontation fueled by an undeniable energy - abrasive yet sensual. Jamira’s talent for blending an array of influences into a cohesive entity have established her as a mainstay in Switzerland’s underground scene for many years and she has been an active contributor to stand-out institutions and collectives such as Cuadro22, Mikro or Czarnagorna to name a few. For Break Well Jamira offers her most emotive side starting off with lingering guitars and drones, before going into beautifully deformed Y2K-esque RnB and more high octane rhythms that in the end dissolve into a fairytale-reminiscent finale – you won´t hear anything like it anytime soon.

For Jamira the theme of shared identity and the strong bond with her inner circle were the breeding ground for the mix: “What I loved about this process was making it a collaborative one and having the cutest friends involved. In the end this project turned out to be more about friends that keep you going than the specific dwelling on romantic relationships of the past.” Conceptionally her collage-based approach allowed to contextualize a nostalgic mood while transmitting the healing impact of sonics at the core of the Break Well concept: “It’s a very intuitive recording, what ends up being heard is not just sonically what I felt blended together well but rather what songs spoke to the narrative I wanted to create.” Taken together, Jamira’s rendition deploys the notion of a skilled, unflinching artist allowing access to a very personal rite of her singular universe.

As always we have established a counter-piece to transmit the mix from the digital into the haptic world. For BW004 the Zurich-based artists Amanda del Valle & Ronja Amata Varonier realized a hoodie in close collaboration with Jamira. The design is rooted in a clear and shared understanding among friends, all aligned with the grand vision of BW004. By blending Amanda's work on dreamy manga girls, a recurring theme in her practice, with Ronja's application of the cyanotype UV light technique, the resulting drawing gained a textured quality that set the stage for the subsequent print. Together, they created an incredibly cute hoodie that captures the essence of the musical experience as well as the intricacies represented in Jamira’s mix while ensuring accessibility for all our friends and acquaintances.

Break Well 004 | Jamira Estrada

Bringing in 2024 with our first EP from NHS boss Galtier & Synes co-founder Druid on with their split EP 'Stone Hardware'. The EP’s four tracks are a collection of solo works and collaborative efforts from both producers recorded throughout the duration of late 2020 and early 2021, taking form as a hybrid collection of club-ready dancefloor destroyers.

The established end product of this EP is evident in the release’s title – an organic, primitive sound palette that frequents Galtier’s dynamic sound as heard in the last few years, combined with Druid’s mechanized futurism taken straight from the streets of Neo-Tokyo. Each producer has offered a distinctive focus that they have merged together into one evolving, unanticipated synthesis of proto and post-earthly sound.

The final katharsis release of 2024 is the 26-track compilation “Physical Force” featuring a wide range of affiliated artists from both the international and local Copenhagen electronic music scene. As the title hints, Physical Force delves into the visceral, bodily aspects of music, inviting its contributors to explore the theme of movement as a central element in their compositions. Each artist was encouraged to focus on rhythm, groove, energy, and the physicality of sound, which resulted in drum-heavy release from start to finish. While there is a consistent emphasis on rhythm and a bodily connection to the music, the tracks vary widely in style and sonic texture, ranging from big melodic anthems, gritty experimental techno, heavy jungle bangers, and beyond.

mono no aware (もののあわれ) is the first compilation to be released on PAN, collating unreleased ambient tracks from both new and existing PAN artists.

Featuring Jeff Witscher, Helm, TCF, Yves Tumor, M.E.S.H., Pan Daijing, HVAD, Kareem Lotfy, ADR, Mya Gomez, Sky H1, James K, Oli XL, Bill Kouligas, Flora Yin-Wong, Malibu, and AYYA, the compilation moves through more traditional notions of what is called ’ambient’, to incorporating wider variations that fall under the term.

“Mono no aware”, ‘the pathos of things’, also translates as “an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera”. A term for the awareness of impermanence, or the transience of things. A meditation on mortality and life's transience, ephemerality heightens the appreciation of beauty and sensitivity to their passing. In investigating the passing of time, the boundaries between memory and hallucination become blurred; between fiction and reality. The movement of time transforms into an eternal present.

The album is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring photography by Molly Matalon and design by Bill Kouligas. A limited version of 100 copies will be released as a special art edition in collaboration with Mount Analog for the LA Art Book Fair 2017, before going on general release.

Search as one might for an adequate charm to safely light 'Red Dragon,' Cæcilie Trier's evocations tend to outpace us at every step. The album's fever-dream story flicks through the recent past and the present. Elon Musk's extraplanetary desires cross with maternal notes. Michael Jackson, too, is watched over.

The terse titles that greet us in Trier's solo work are a wry sleight of hand. CTM, standing for Cæcilie Trier Musik, marks the impersonal boundary where intimacies are developed, trampled, and searched through. On her new album for Posh Isolation, produced with Asger Hartvig, aka MC Boli of Boli Group, the drama is composed and enduring, like a plot twist that lasts a life time.

Trier is a Copenhagen based cellist, singer, and composer, with her classical training apparent across her many and varied projects and collaborations. Having received critical acclaim from the earliest moments of her career, Trier's previous album 'Suite For A Young Girl' was nominated for the prestigious Nordic Music Prize in 2017.

'Red Dragon' keeps Trier's voice central to the affairs. The instrumentation wades in and out of focus from stage right and left. And as often as we are caught in the songwriting’s pirouettes and glances around the vocals, the splintering effect of the production impresses an inhuman déjà vu with regularity. This is especially felt in the electronics, sound bites, and digital ephemera that dress the songs. The bareness of the strings and guitars act as a peculiar balance, keeping us close just as we get a sense of the distance from which we are permitted a view.

'Red Dragon' features appearances from Coco O, Frederikke Hoffmeier (Puce Mary), Soho Rezanejad, and Dawda Jobarteh.
