In RAIN meditations we take the time to work with difficult circumstances in order to bring insight and healing. Each letter is a step of the process, we Recognize what is here, Allow it to be here, Investigate what is going on in the body, and Nurture the vulnerable spaces within. 
This practice is a great tool for working through challenging situations and even great difficulties or trauma over time (as you build resilience within). However, it can also bring a lot to the surface. If you have a history of trauma, you might ask your therapist if this work is right for you.
