Kelsie Kimberlin today released her first full length EP “The Drawer” on all music platforms. This will be her first EP release with the Symphonic Music Group. The EP pushes the limit with eight powerfully moving songs telling stories about her life and relationships that will touch everyone.  The name of the EP signifies the many drawers that make up Kelsie’s life and the emotions held inside each one. The EP has bookends signifying a book with many chapters.

The Drawer

My world, like everyone's lately, is a bit crazy yet I find solace in my relationships with family and close friends. Hazy Day is about the comfort and love I find with someone very special. When I am having a rough day or having trouble coping, that special person calms me down and lets me know that everything is going to be ok. "Soma medicated" comes from Aldous Huxley's famous novel, "Brave New World," where people are given "soma" to keep them happy and satisfied no matter what. I want to thank everyone who helped bring this beautiful song to life.

There is so much more that binds us all together than breaks us apart, and that is why I wrote Bring Together.  It is time that we all overcome our differences so we can all live happier lives with brighter futures.  I wanted to release this song now in the hope that it might play a small part in reducing our divisions with more emphasis on empathy and compassion.

Bring Together

Kelsie Kimberlin’s plans to release her new song “Masterpiece” got delayed by the pandemic, which is apropos considering the topic covered in the song and accompanying video.  Filmed at the historic Lviv, Ukraine Opera House and in gorgeous landscapes outside of Kyiv, the video takes on multiple meanings for the song’s title.  At first blush, one may think that Kelsie is talking about herself when she sings about being a masterpiece – “Yeah, my figure is so pretty, just like a masterpiece from Italy….”  And it is true that she is absolutely stunning throughout the video. However, upon deeper reflection, one realizes that she is singing about our lovely planet earth, and how it will survive only if we “wake up” and protect it.  

“I am hopeful that Masterpiece will generate a great deal of discussion of and awareness about the fragility of our planet and the responsibility of every human being to ensure that it will forever remain habitable and beautiful.  The lyrics evoke a sense of self-love and self-care that must extend to the entire globe.  Although this song and video were recorded and filmed prior to the devastation of COVID, that pandemic serves as a reflection of what I am warning about in Masterpiece".

Masterpiece

“Dusty Road” is an ode to moving on in life, sometimes happily and sometimes wistfully.  At some point in our lives, we realize that relationships or circumstances have put us in a rut and we have to break free, often with a certain bitterness that those we loved or depended upon did not carry their load, so we have to carry it ourselves.  At the same time, we can look back at those old shadows with a certain mischievous delight, knowing that we were able to find new happiness, and nothing was able to hold us down.

“We are all trying our best to move on from the terrible burdens of the past several years, and Dusty Road is my way of saying that it’s ok to shed some burdens while still carrying those that are important.  This video is my first live filming since the pandemic began and we had to shoot it outdoors, simply and with a very small crew in order to ensure the safety of everyone and comply with COVID restrictions. Dusty Road

Sometimes people find themselves in the right place at the wrong time, especially in matters related to love and relationships, and that is what this song is all about.  Falling out of love after a toxic relationship can be too hard to face with or without medication, and all the “what ifs” are enough to drive a person crazy. Everything is just so hard to bear and the one wish is to turn back time and reset the relationship even though that is impossible. 

“So many people have been involved with a messed up relationship that ended up messing up their head and heart.  The pain of the breakup can sometimes be so difficult to bear that it leads to depression and constant heartache.  I hope my song touches people and helps them to deal with these issues.  We all have to find our own happiness inside ourselves, and that will lead us to the right place at the right time.”

It is a reflection on the misplaced values of our society when media shows more concern with profits than the privacy rights and mental health of famous people.  Everyone, no matter how well known, deserves to take a walk, dine at a coffee shop or browse at an art gallery without being accosted by paparazzi.

Reflection

“What We Had” is all about moving on when a relationship does not bring you the joy and satisfaction you deserve.  However, the song can be interpreted to relate to any type of relationship that has gone bad.  Why stay in a rut when life is short and emotional bandwidth is limited? 

In the video, I painted my nails in the colors of Ukraine to show my strong love and support for my brave and courageous country, which is also moving on from a toxic relationship.

In today’s society, so many people are suffering from depression, loneliness and hopelessness.  All those people need to know that there are others who care deeply for them and understand that the depression is not their fault.  

“I have known many people who suffer or suffered from depression and some even gave up and threw it all away because they could not get the help they desperately needed. I created this video so everyone will know that there is never any reason to give up because so many people care and want to help.  The light is shining even when everything appears dark.  In this video, I keep calling out and beckoning for a loved one to open the door, see the light, and feel the glow of my love.  Please, if anyone knows someone who needs help, seek it out.”

It's Not The Time

It’s Not The Time

"Shattered" is a song that so many of us can relate to, either in our own lives or in the lives of loved ones.  It is about an amazing girl who gave it all to a guy who treated her badly causing her so much stress and loss of self confidence that she let herself go and finally broke into pieces "all shattered across the floor."  But the song is also about her redemption, about how, from the depths of depression and despair she found the strength to put it all back together and decide, once and for all that she deserved better.  The broader message here can apply to other aspects of human existence, whether in the affairs of countries or business.  We are all put on earth to be the best, to look out for each other, and to show by example.

Shattered

The concept for this video began in 2017 when I finished a demo version of the song and sent it to the great Ukrainian composer and film director Sergiy Krutsenko in Kyiv. He wrote an orchestral score and brought in the Kyiv Radio Symphony Orchestra to play it. He then invited me to Ukraine to film the video in an epic production at a former Soviet prison camp and a centuries-old castle. The filming was both grueling and exhilarating.  The story is about a dystopian society where music is banned and musicians are executed for violating the "law of silence."  I play the role of the protagonist musician who opposes the dictator while his army of misfits constantly try to stop me but I always get away at the last second. This story is not only a metaphor for the actions of authoritarian regimes around the world but it foretold, in a sense, the 2022 full invasion of Ukraine by a dictator with a misfit army. And the lyrics of the song are the perfect power anthem for Ukraine with the chorus a defiant and unapologetic war cry toward victory--"We are the promise, we are the glory, we are the story."  Initially, we created the video not just for the song but as a pilot for a series on cable.  Unfortunately, COVID hit in 2020 before we could finish it, then the big war started in February 2022, and then my friend and mentor, Sergiy Krutsenko, died suddenly on  January 6, 2023 while he was at his workstation editing the video.   So his team in Ukraine finished it and hopefully, he is pleased with the final result. We will now actively push for a cable company to fulfill Sergey's dream to create a hard-hitting film series where famous musicians can make cameo appearances with me to fight against fascism.  On the anniversary of Sergiy's death, I dedicate this video to him and the people of Ukraine. Cosmopolitan Girl

“Fruit Basket” is my song of hope and happiness for everyone who cares about humanity.  I am Ukrainian-American and I want the world to see that despite the horrors of the war, we live life to the fullest by celebrating love for family and friends, and all the simple joys that give us meaning. Because of the incredible Latin groove, I traveled to Cartagena, Colombia to film the video and had a wonderful time with everyone on set including the famous Palenqueras in their vibrant colors with fruit baskets on their head. Fruit Basket

The one-year anniversary of the unjust war against Ukraine was on February 24th.  I am Ukrainian-American and I spent many peaceful childhood summers there. This war has affected me deeply so I am going to be releasing a number of songs this year about my feelings.  “Spoof I Wonder” depicts the horrors of war as seen by award-winning photojournalist Andriy Dubchak who has been documenting the war including at the front line.  My performance, both vocally and visually, attempts to express the profound pain and suffering the war has brought not just to Ukrainians but to all civilized people.  I ask everyone to support Ukraine in every way they can and share the hashtag, #StandWithUkraine.

Spoof I Wonder

My favorite song by one of my favorite artists, Miley Cyrus, is “Rooting For My Baby.”  I used to sing it in the car on my way to middle school, and always wanted to do a cover of the tune.  So now, that time has come.  My production team and I laid down the audio tracks in a couple of studio sessions and then my video director filmed me singing the song in less than an hour. The song is kind of a metaphor of me rooting every day for my beloved Ukraine to “wake in the morning,” “hold on,” ‘it’s a long road,” “in a moment it’ll be over and gone,” and catch the dream of peace “everlasting.”  So I hope everyone will listen and sing along with that in mind

Rooting For My Baby

"Road Trip" is my song about reaching a breaking point after discovering a terrible family truth.  The refrain of the song is about jumping in the car and just driving away for a long, long time.  In the video, set in the 1950s, I jump into a red 1956 Ford Thunderbird convertible and head on down the road. Many people we all know have felt the urge to just say, "to hell with this" and want to find the courage to leave a toxic situation, so I am hopeful that the song and video will resonate with everyone on some level.  In the audio, the guitar solo represents the angst of the situation, the bridge represents the heartfelt desire to live without drama, and then the piano solo represents the release and calm while driving and leaving it all behind. Road Trip

I wrote this song about a toxic relationship I was in for far too long. I hope that this song will help others believe in themselves and realize that it is never a good thing to lose one’s self-worth to another person.

High school was difficult for me for many reasons and it caused me a great deal of anxiety. Instead of therapy, I escaped from my worries with intoxicating substances leaving behind a trail of pain for my family and friends. But they believed in me when I did not believe in myself and helped me recover. I could not have done it alone and I am so thankful to them. I know many other families who have suffered through the same difficulties and some have also seen recovery while others have suffered tragedy. I hope this song will help others to get through difficult times and to lean on those who love them.

Road Trip - Summer Remix

Armageddon is a song about how Ukraine is fighting to stop the armageddon unleashed by the Russian Federation against the world.

My new song and video "Another Chance To Live Again" are about the profound feelings of loss that so many people in Ukraine have experienced since they were attacked by war criminals starting in 2014.   
I wanted to express and encapsulate the feelings not only of individual people but of an entire country and society so I used religious and spiritual references in the music and lyrics.  
I traveled to Ukraine to film the video in some of the locations of the worst atrocities in Irpin and Bucha.  The video begins at a destroyed cultural center that was once the go-to place for plays, concerts and other happy community events. Out back was the Irpin soccer stadium where teams and children played and practiced.  It is now pockmarked with dozens of artillery holes and thousands of shrapnel wounds. The other building in the video was filled with hundreds of apartments where people lived before it was attacked with missiles. The destroyed bridge was initially used by Ukrainians trying to escape the enemy bombings until the enemy massacred hundreds of civilians driving across it.  The Ukrainian Armed Forces blew it up so the enemy could not advance with tanks and heavy equipment. The church scarred with shrapnel is located right next to the bridge.  
We filmed with the permission of the Armed Forces while air raid sirens were blaring and attack drones and missiles were being shot down overhead.  It was all very emotional for me because I knew that families with their children died right where I was filming.  I talked to many people who lost loved ones and told them that I was there to tell their stories to the world.

Another Chance To Live Again

My new song and video "Turn Back" is the third of the trilogy of videos I filmed in Ukraine in August, 2023. It has multiple meanings depending on the place in which you find yourself.  For many people, it is a plea to a loved one who looking for something somewhere else to find it right there at home.  But for me, this song and video are about Ukraine. First, it is a call for those millions of refugees who left Ukraine after the war began to come back home to help Ukraine rebuild.  Ukraine needs you and this is where your heart remains.  Second, it expresses the longing of all those Ukrainians who have a  friend or family member fighting near or far to come back home alive. In the video, you can see photos of thousands of soldiers who died defending Ukraine. Those photos are posted on The Wall of Remembrance next to St. Michael's Cathedral in Kyiv, the bells of which were heard all over Kyiv in December 2013 at the beginning of the “Revolution of Dignity” of Euromaidan. Ten years ago, there were only 100 photos on that wall of the “Heavenly Hundred” who were killed by terrorists at Maidan in Kyiv. Now there are more than ten thousands photos with more added every day. The destroyed enemy tanks and heavy military equipment shown in the video are set up in the square next to the cathedral to remind people of the terror unleashed against innocent Ukrainians. These three videos form a trilogy of modern Ukrainian history, showing the dignity, strength and desire that ordinary Ukrainians stand for despite horrific difficulties.  They went through "Armageddon" to get "Another Chance to Live Again" and finally "Turn Back" to a normal life where there is love, happiness and independence. Through these songs and videos, I am acting as a chronicler, calling on people from all over the world not only to feel the severity of the war, but also to help the Ukrainians get back what belongs to them.  My harmonies are in a polyphonic form where separate vocals alternately hand off or differentiate the melody with a mesmerizing, haunting and calming effect.

I love Latin music and I wanted to write a song about a hot girl whose dancing catches the attention and desires of everyone.  So I collaborated with my friend and producer Pedro Vengoehea who laid down a cool Spanish rap and a cool mix of beats with real instruments. I filmed a video for this song in Cartagena, Colombia with an amazing group of dancers.

I am American-Ukrainian and I have been very supportive of Ukraine in its war against russian terrorist regime.  This song is about the leader of that regime.

So I wrote this song to let people know that the grass is not always greener on the other side. This is another breakup song, but not one where the break was caused by cheating or anger. Instead, this is about two young people who meet over summer vacation and fall in love, knowing full well that they will have to part when school starts. This hurts, but the beautiful memories persist with honest reminders of the brief love they had. Yes, it happened to me.

Summertime's Gone

Twinkle is about how awesome transgender kids are and how fortunate we are that they are part of the human fabric. The video about this song features me with a 12-year-old transgender girl as we have fun at her home, at Disney World, and at the Gaylord Ice Sculptures. Transgender kids have the same needs as any other child, and all they need is love, support, and acceptance to be happy. The video will be released on May 31st, just in time for Pride Month 2024.

How many times have we been in a relationship where we feel anxious and want to get away only to realize that our partner is so amazing that we could never find anyone more right for us? This song is about a relationship where the lover provides stability, which is needed in this crazy world in which we live.

I readily admit that the subject of this song is autobiographical, and I know that many people feel the same when they are in a relationship where their hormones, emotions, and desires are raging so much that they lose control of their common sense. Such relationships are intoxicating and powerful but they usually end by flaming out from exhaustion.

Why do people blindly follow leaders and media even when it hurts them? This is a question for the ages and the subject of Lobotomy. 

Throughout history, people, to their detriment, have followed leaders, propagandists, and snake oil salesmen like lemmings off the cliff.  Today, it is no different but more dangerous because of instantaneous media combined with mob mentalities.

The message is deep and the wake-up call is powerful.
