thjs is a real life sample of my site specific haunted soundtrack, live improvised on multiple instruments ranging from homemade unusual stringed instruments through electric musical saws, rearranged accordian  and toy piano innards, and electroniceffects and looping. inspired by the soundtracks to old italian horror movies from the psychedelic gothic late 60s and 70s. this recoerded version is soundtracking a haunted garden at an underground venue in Brooklyn

Riddlesong

This song features the Filipoberiophone, the oldest of my instruments that I still play regularly.  It was built in 1994, is all welded metal, with an old olive oil can as the resonator, and a small cymbal hidden inside.  It is still one of the best sounds I have built, and very versatile.  Mostly it is played with a bow, in the violoncello range, but it has several other ways of being played, including percussively.  in this track, everything that is not voice is created on the Filipoberiophone.  It tells the story of a memorable moment with an old friend.

This song is an ode to the transmigration of Alfred Jarry, father of 'pataphysics and protosurrealist extraordinaire, a figure well worth looking up.  It blends surreal imagery with mythology both traditional and personal, channels spirits, and discusses a singer'sneed to suddenly use the bathroom, all inside a loosely bluesish format, with much decoration, using several of my handmade instruments including the filipoberiophone, with middle eastern percussion and guitar. It has long been a favorite.

We all went spinning-kelvin

This is an instrumental improvisation on a large tambura like instrument that has not been rebuilt since it was lost in a fire, and a bowed instrument that is made to bow chordal accompaniment, inspired by the lyra da braccio, still used today in gypsy music. This instrument is built from a tortoise shell, with 7 strings in open tuning, and a skin hide, partially inspired by the story of how the god Apollo built the first musical instrument in greek mythology. Although I do not record on it too often, this has always been a special instrument to me.  There is also a bit of abstract voice and percussion in the improv, although it was recorded in only two tracks.
