Apparently, Charlie loves 90's french hip hop like me. The difference between us is that he can understand the lyrics cause french is his native language. Me on the other hand, i don't speak any french. Every clerk in the Metro of Paris was telling me that……and the lady that i was trying to buy breakfast from was telling me that……and the guy that sold me some ciggies did the same thing………let's say i was a little bit angry after that

Glad to share our first release of the year, produced by Andrei Rusu and including a remix from Beatrice M. The Romanian and Berlin-based artist has been deeply involved in electronic music production, DJ-ing, and live performance as part of the duo Khidja. We discovered his music through his first solo EP, "I’ve Lost Control", released in 2024 on Berlin based label Malka Tuti, followed by the album "Met Him On A Wednesday", released under his alias Ed Rain and marked by its introspective tone and experimental approach. His weird electro sound is influenced by post punk, DIY and wave. Rusu’s music is organic, exploratory and unconventional.

Andrei: « This is my most cathartic to date, it’s quite haunting and feels a bit like screaming into a pillow. I imagine it as the perfect soundtrack to banging your head against a table. »

A key element throughout the EP’s sound and lively feeling is the use of Andrei’s favorite machines such as the Mort’s Barge module, the Microtonic or the Syncussion. He creates captivating soundscapes and deep evolutive atmospheres that inspired Beatrice M. to deliver a slow bassy belter that compliments this release perfectly.

"Estonian oddball Roma Vjazemski eases Berceuse Heroique back into the original production saddle with a killer suite of wheezing folk-dub synth sketches landing somewhere between Wah Wah Wino, Pretty Sneaky, Aeson Zervas and Civilistjävel!, doing their thing around a Baltic campfire.

The eight part session is the label's first tape of original works since turns by Al Wootton and Tradecraft aka Carrier last year, quietly regaling a slow burning instrumental yarn with lyrically poetic fingers on the keys and in its flickering downbeats. It’s the sort of music that feels to exist in its own dreamy time and space; unfussed or hurried by trend or commercial urgency, happy to glaze over the 3rd eye and unravel to its own atmospheric physics and pace.

With ambidextrous mutability, Vjazemski loosely limns the vibe via lines of rippling rhythmelodic thought on a trip from deliquescent dub minimalism in ‘Wired’, to the alien digi-dub of ‘Cryto’. He variously invokes mountain folk synth spectres in the very Wah Wah Wino-esque lope of ’Nhava’, thru curdled industrial curios on ‘Royal Brown’, and near passing out in a Estonian sweatbox with the wrung-out blips of ‘Sauna Belt’ - reminding us of Bergheim 34’s supremely sick, inexplicably forgotten 1999 bullet ‘Sechstrack’ for Klang Elektronik.

That fine seam of late night suss really comes out best in the glowing tone of ‘5am’ and likewise the smouldering embers of psych-folk dirge in the keening drones and crackle of ’Still Old’ and its ‘Ode to Outro’ like some lovesick mellotron"

"This mix is a landscape. This mix is a maze. There are many possible ways to venture into both a landscape and a maze. Now imagine that their components, what define them as a landscape or a maze, would be dreams. The brain is unpredictable, we never know which way he’ll pick for us to witness or experience once we are in the unconsciousness. I like to imagine there is a cartography of our dreams which could be seen as both a landscape and a maze into which our brain venture every time we fall asleep. This mix is one of this way. 
I tried to capture and find music matching what I feel sometimes at night when I wake up from a dream. I often remember my dreams, most of them are either anxious or funny. I really like what our brain can do to mix up memories, our daily lives, reality and fiction into something really strange and unique and this mix is a transcription of these emotions from falling asleep to waking up."

Voices Radio - Control Freak Recordings w/ Faulter - 10/04/2025

Bristol-based @k_means operates at the fringes of electronic music. It's not tempo and genre that unites their sound, but more an exploration of mood and texture underpinned by bass-heavy low ends and hypnotic rhythms. The Noods, Rinse FM and Kiosk Radio regular is also resident at Bristol's Psychotherapy Sessions and will debut at Dekmantel Festival where you should fully expect to be taken into plenty of unknown musical territory.

It is the same with their mix for us this week - a wild trip into futuristic drum patterns and interplanetary sounds that melt the mind and contort the body. There is a constant push and pull between the organic and the synthetic with tribal percussion and warped vocals brushing up with bleeping synth modulations and experimental minimalism. It's a magnetic selection that's as much an imaginary movie soundtrack as it is a dance floor escape.
