Nobody knows the music business like Ken Levy. With over 30 years of industry experience, Ken has seen just about everything – and he's had his hands in just about everything too. Since landing his first job at a PR firm in the early 80s working with legendary R&B musicians Joe Simon and Millie Jackson, Ken has helped propel the careers of multi-platinum artists like Whitney Houston, Usher, Sarah McLachlan, Barry Manilow, and Dionne Warwick. He worked at Arista Records for two decades – nine years as an executive – and has been mentioned in Rolling Stone, the New York Post, and Billboard magazine. But despite his accomplishments, Ken's drive has never been fueled by prestige. Rather, his source of inspiration runs deep, and can be traced back to his time as a boy.
“I grew up in Long Island in an area heavily populated by doctors, lawyers and garment center executives. My father was one of the latter. I knew from my earliest memories that buying women's wear and filling orders for stores across the country was not something I was the least interested in.”
But what he was interested in was music. Every week his dad would bring home copies of Billboard and Record World where he’d analyze the charts and keep up on popular music. He frequented record stores, and at one point convinced his mother to give him a small space in her dress store to sell vinyl albums to customers. He even launched an “early version of Amazon” where people would place phone orders and he'd deliver albums to their homes. From the beginning it was clear: Ken was destined to be a record man.
Perhaps the most vital skill gained from his youth is having a sharp eye for talent – something that's served him well throughout his career. After the PR firm, Ken did freelance advertising for nearly every label in New York, including Polygram, Elektra, and Atlantic, plus film companies such as New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures. He eventually joined the Arista roster full-time and spent 20 years with the label – nine as the Senior Vice President of Creative Services reporting to the legendary Clive Davis. He led marketing campaigns for Aretha Franklin, the Grateful Dead, Santana, Annie Lennox, Carly Simon, Patti Smith, Kenny G, and multi-platinum soundtracks like The Bodyguard and Waiting To Exhale, which resulted in record breaking sales.
Ken continued his success as president of Combustion Marketing and Management in 2001. There he oversaw creative teams, and wrote and produced over 75 projects for clients including the Grammys, AOL Music, Columbia Records, and BMG. He was chosen by Sony Music to create an independent label that would go on to release music by The Sopranos' Dominic Chianese, Merchant Ivory’s film soundtrack for Le Divorce, and Carly Simon’s historic concert Live From Martha’s Vineyard on DVD. 
What's next for the Clio Awards winner and the guy who penned the tagline for Nightmare on Elm Street's sequel “The Man of Your Dreams Is Back”? Doing what he does best: discovering talent and helping it thrive. Stamford Creative Management is his latest endeavor.
