Maybe it's music for 20-or30-something sensitive rejects; survivors, but with semi-wakeful, glassy eyes and brains gone soft from daydreaming and years of unabated millennial nostalgia. A sort of general, one-size-fits-all soundtrack for online encyclopedias and other similarly voluminous bodies of non-fiction, but also and more earnestly for celebrated non-canons, works of alternate history, and amateur prose.

Maybe it's motivation to replace a poor work ethic with a slightly less poor one, but then with the tendency to make situationally appropriate facial expressions at situationally inappropriate times, intentional or no. Or it's respite from the seemingly inescapable dualities of the aforementioned work ethic.

It's not a sedative for the tough-acting, inwardly shy closet loner types. It's not recommended for shrewd savants, prospective prodigies, or tenured troubadours. It's no substitute for a hell-bent military march to accent the ten-cent words of a would-be dictator in his final recitation of an obsolete manifesto. Nor is it the anthem for the ensuing coup d'etat.

It's music that doesn't know what the fuck it is, for people who don't know who the fuck they are.
